Where are people on #Skycards getting the Antonov An-12? Loads of people seem to have it but I've never even seen one. I presume there are a few in Russia, some in West Africa, but where am I most likely to catch one?

Very proud to have pulled this off years ago...not the rarest aircraft I have spotted but considering where I normally live its one of the least likely I am to see.
I like that they can pop up in unlikely places
Recently ine was destroyed during Operation Spiderweb on Olenya Base in Russia. According to Ukrainian Wikipedia, although they were designed in Ukraine (in Soviet Union times), they were mostly produced in Russia and Turkmenistan (then parts of Soviet Union) and China
Ukrainian Wikipedia has as well a list of known operators with numbers of planes - See uk.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%90%... (I would suggest using Google translate)
I saw them in Libya many years ago, but not recently. Nice looking aircraft, though.
There's something about those Soviet turboprop transports, really unique look
I've never seen one but have heard them a couple of times heading into Shannon, before Ukraine was invaded they (and An-26s) were not uncommon because there was a Ukrainian cargo outfit who did a lot of work for oil companies AFAIR
Fascinating, I never realised ex-Sov types were still so common around UK and Ireland. We don't tend to get them down our way
Cavok Air operate An-12 variants, spotted (on adsbexchange) flying between Prestwick and places in Europe. Heard UR-CNN (now retired) fly over (Leeds) at ~FL210; loud, distinctive, unlike anything else I've heard. Beautiful, noisy, smoky old birds; I love 'em! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavok_Air
UR-CEZ and UR-CKM seem fairly active at present. www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraf... www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraf...
I spotted a Beriev Be-200 around the Black Sea earlier, if I'd had a catch anywhere I'd have been all over it
They're the best ones, but as soon as I get them, I go scrolling over the world to find the rarest thing I can. I should probably save them.
Yeah, same. Should keep powder dry
There's some really cool stuff around Alaska btw. Bushplanes, modified DC-3s, seaplanes etc
There are a few one of a kinds in Alaska that I have identified and would like to get. I only have three one-of-a-kind so far. I want more!
I've got more where there's only two but that's nothing to me.
That's amazing. I haven't got any yet, I've only been playing for a couple of days
I totally lucked out. The Blackburn swordfish does seem to fly around quite a lot though.
Yes, and its so slow there's a fair chance of spotting it even on shorter flights
Should have been playing this when the Martin Mars was flying to the museums. Also Western Australia is good for rarities. They use Fokker F-28s and BAE146s/R700s to fly workers to the mining sites
😵💫 Is that one of the NASA ones?
Goddamn They really need to work on the silhouettes
I'm not sure you could call a Saab 340 a similar aircraft
Fantastic, thanks. And there was me hanging around Moscow...
I got one in Russia from a Catch Anywhere power up
There are a few that regularly fly over London to Birmingham
They're audible as they rumble over at 24000ft
Wow, I assumed people were spending a ton of coin to pick it up in Kazakhstan or something!
I've caught two of them as they pass near to Manchester - one flying into Belfast from Turkey and one flying from Belfast to Ostend!
I know the context for this, but I'm still enjoying the mental image of you all sitting in your back yards with binoculars and massive butterfly nets
Gets us away from our screens anyway!
