I hope the damages are unmanageable. I hope OpenAI collapses under the weight of the liabilities and Altman is left destitute. I hope it serves as a warning to the others

I hope he seeks solace from one of the suicide bots
👍
The sooner we're done with this AI bullshit, the better.
It’s never going away. Everyone needs to stop acting like it’s a fad or something and just push for clear regulation and limitations. What Musk did was the equivalent of releasing vaccines before human trials, knowing people will die and saying “we’ll use the data to make it better”. Tech isn’t…
AI and crypto BOTH better go away real fucking soon. The electricity and water consumption of the data centers that support them is going to fuck us hard.
See now that’s a fair arguement as to why it wouldn’t persist in some form at least until we figure out how to mine asteroids and that’s a LONG way off. I agree, it can’t continue in its current form and crypto is literally reinventing the wheel and then using it to scam people lol
We're never going to get to mining asteroids or a colony on Mars. Climate change impacts will bring the hammer down on ALL that shit - food production (both land and sea), stable electric grid, transportation infrastructure (land, sea and air). Our big-tech civilization is extremely fragile.
Hence why I said it’s a long way off.
Maybe the next, presumably more circumspect, iteration of human civilization can get it done ... 2-3 hundred years from now if the globe cools back down a bit.
…as simple as it was 20+ years ago. The problem is the wrong people have unfettered access to new technologies that should be used for public good, not profits. Self driving cars aren’t the problem, the people building them are
tech isn't much more complex than it was 20 years ago, there's simply more of it. self driving cars are a problem because they don't work well
Which means the people building them are releasing products to the public prematurely. AI, ML aren't the problem. Greedy assholes who have neither integrity nor humanity are. The phrase "fail often, fail fast" may work in the factory or the lab, but it has no place in public distribution of product.
The original example I used is, this is pretty much just the pharmaceutical industry before they passed laws that said you couldnt release products without reporting your data first, and having a review for approval of your product. You understand
Those flush door handles are a case in point. People have died because of them.
Yeah it's going to go away soon. It's goddamn useless.
In 1998 I was using a neural network to learn my handwriting so it could convert it to text on an Apple Newton MessagePad 2000: that is AI. Today, I use a fully local hardware device that adds hands free driving to my Hyundai: that is also AI. ChatGPT isn't all there is to AI. AI isn't going away.
Maybe, maybe not. Remember when every company was trying to shove the metaverse and NFTs down our throats?
Both things can be true. The bubble can burst and it can become uncool and we would still need to harshly regulate it.
Right, it’s two entirely seperate points and trying to say the bubble we are in now means AI is a fad, is like saying the internet was a fad because of the .com bubble. People who think this is just gonna go away need to STFU and move aside, and let people take the time to regulate it properly
look man, sometimes things really are fads.
Not when they’ve already been implemented in literally every aspect of your life. Machine learning is prevalent. Advanced AIs like ChatGPT? 100% agree but the whole technology group? No, it’s too useful and humans don’t toss useful tools. We just improve them. It just wont be the US
ML isn't AI. i can do ML with a dataset and a copy of Weka. But I'm not going to any conceptual leaps unless I do them myself. It's just DIY practical statistics
Are you being obtuse or what. Nowadays when people say AI they mean chatgpt and the likes.
Basically, anyone who actually takes the time to read about the foundations of what goes into an AI understands, it’s already everywhere, it’s not going away, but what guys like Musk are doing with it is irresponsible, stupid, and overall a waste of time, resources and potential.
Because we never fucking get rid of anything bad. We just exploit it - or use it to exploit others. If you think unemployment is bad now, give it a minute.
That’s literally my point. The perception of AI being a fad is predicated directly on people jumping to things like ChatGPT and in that regard I agree, it is. I also feel that that is what most people believe because that’s what rich people want it to be, to mine data, to make more money….
… but people forget that ChatGPT is an AI in the same way that most things that run on machine learning are, but ultimately one is useful and one is a fad, yea. That doesn’t mean the technology as a whole is a fad, or should go away, just how we use it and think of it needs to shift
I'm sure there's time and place for that. People in this thread are clearly talking about chatgpt kind and you're here going "actually 🤓☝🏾". Nobody's gonna listen, they're gonna fight you. Now what does that solve.
This whole thread is a bunch of people fellatiating each other and validating an idea predicated on gross misunderstanding of a topic. When information is incorrect you should say so. How people react to that is usually more about them than the information itself.
It’s really not my problem that two or three people are talking out of their asses on a topic. They’re opinion based in ignorance shouldn’t be treated equally to people who are more educated on a topic. It’s not about them. They’re confident morons. Its about presenting better info for others.
Properly regulate it out of existence. Problem solved.
This 💯
I fucking hate AI showing up where I didn’t ask for it - have some goddamn manners 🍀
The amount they pay for their crimes tends to be much lower than the money they've made along the way. Unfortunately, no lessons will be learned here.
OpenAI has yet to make any money that wasn't fundraised from billionaires, and offers no real products. It's the ultimate grift.
I'm talking about the money Sam Altman has made from the grift, not the product. AI in it's current use offers little actual value on a large scale, but Altman has made a ton off of govt contracts and grifting.
Yeah, I agree with you. We kinda said the same thing, but with different words. 😅
Yep and that's why it's going to disappear very soon.
Not soon enough.
Since when has any CEO been left destitute, like ever? They always land on their feet. The MBA Tech Bros brotherhood look after their own.
I agree 💯
😂
I like AI to a point, but I don't like it being automatically uploaded everywhere and forced on me. On Facebook, it's listed as a contact, which is straight up nuts. I don't need it to write an email either. I don't like that I had to disable it on Word. It's too much.
Fortunately, I have an older version of Word. It doesn't include AI. I'm okay with that. I don't want an upgrade. I want to write my own stuff without suggestions from some know-it-all robot. (And yes, I know that's a massive oversimplification of the problem. Get over it.)
I have two typewriters. I absolutely cannot stand AI trying to correct my grammar and tell me what to write.
I miss typewriters. I made money with one when I was in high school and college (yes, I'm old). I proofread, edited, and typed term papers for college students from the time I was 15 until the age of 20. The more work I had to do, the more I charged -- and they paid. It was better than fast food.
I completely agree. AI is good for certain tasks. For example, I asked it to give me 100 phrases that would be useful for a Vietnamese high school student and to translate them to English with a pronunciation key for Vietnamese speakers. I wouldn't be able to Google that.
They're desperately trying to jimmy it into everything so they can recuperate some of their investment. As it stands, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and all the others are gonna be toast when the AI bubble bursts.
Remember when AI used John Cena’s voice to groom young teens? Cena should sue them into the ground.
He's still tied to Vince McMahon's leash. He won't do anything.
The board tried to remove him, guess they were right.
AI is very useful. It will get everywhere. Particular companies might rise and fall, but AI will continue to get everywhere.
I'm an amateur in AI but have had some good experiences (e.g., grant strategies). A colleague of mine uses AI to punch up her social media posts at work (successfully). But I find most other uses annoying, time consuming, and counterproductive. Plus the mass extinction probabilities of course.
I want my compensation for being part of the large learning module without my consent
And then I hope Altman asks his chatgpt how to get out of the hopeless situation.
Lol. I'm thinking of the recent South Park where the AI just told them what they wanted to hear and they spiraled into their own self-destruction regardless.
He should be legally required to give his kid’s blood back
I hope Altman ends up in prison or even just shunned from the rest of the world and exiled to his own personal island. Idgaf, he needs to be removed from the general populace for our safety.
We all know how often billionaires are made to pay for their crimes
Yes! ME TOO!!!
Look for better options. I don't use ChatGPT. I use Anthropic Claude
Corporate success rate of implementing AI has been abysmal. Gartner, McKinsey, etc. are all stating those facts. It will be a while until we have AI that works alongside people. Governance is necessary now before it's too late.
I would say it may be never. Artificial intelligence is one of those things that we created in science fiction and we keep thinking will just manifest itself. But we are at the end of the improvements promised by Moore's law. We may need to accept that This is about as smart as computers ever get.
I shared snippets of the court filing with my spouse and they instantly deleted Chat GPT from their phone because of it. They can't support such a reckless and reprehensible product from such an evil organization.
Destitute? That should be the least of it. Jail seems more appropriate considering the seriousness of his crimes.
And then we have to figure out what to do with all that excess power capacity we built. Happy ending!
We have attempted to warn ourselves through our entire existence. We’ve not done well with the information.
Won't you please think of the pain the AI's are going through? LMAO.
me too
OpenAI's business model is like if the rabies virus had some very niche medical use, and so the company with a patent on that medical use infected every dog and cat in the world with rabies, and tested it out on every illness without consent, to see where else they could profit off the patent.
Fingers crossed so far - I use Kagi.
This is a fantastic analogy!
Great analogy, for something which is obvious and at the same time difficult to describe to anyone who accepts the status quo too deeply to see it clearly.
It would be better all round if it just went away - people thinking for themselves should not be discouraged .
I don’t know about all this but at the moment we don’t know what AI will do for society and what if it’s a big nothing burger. I’m just saying it could happen .
Eff AI
How much do you want to bet that OP thinks this art that i made in 2023 is bad
"Dans ce pays-ci il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres"
I just hope his pet robot talks him into killing himself. The more you use the product, the better it works on you.
Can anyone elaborate? I haven't seen anything about open ai whatsoever.
Basically they've been feeding their algorithm with copyrighted material and essentially said it was too expensive to pay the original artists. I hope they are forced to pay, and AI disappears forever.
Thank you for explaining! I don't see anything wrong with A.I. being used for assisting tasks and/or making things more efficient/easier, even automating menial tasks. But taking content from any artist is unacceptable.
Same. It can be useful as a sounding board, or collating meeting notes etc., but I'd rather art be created by feeling humans, and that they get paid appropriately. As if it isn't hard enough to make a living in those fields!
Agreed!!! To me a.i. is a tool that should NOT be making any forms of art. I'd even say it can be used for people to come up with ideas on what art to create, but not fabricating the art with a.i. itself. That's just evil and will only harm humans with repetitive rehashed "art" 💀
Yes! Happy to give a take away order to a machine, and let them do dangerous or boring jobs, but leave the art to the humans.
AI is a bubble that is fit to burst.
“Generative AI” is just efficient plagiarism.
It is the begining to look like a trend to replace workers. What is next as robotics becomes more available? Are we moving at an accelerated pace to the age of the machines? AI is now learning on its own what does that portend for our future?
All the information we have given to the government over our entire lives has been feed into AI and our government is switching over to AI for all our documents and services. This will be how things are done. We don’t get a say. Taxpayers will pay for all the bailouts when things go sideways.
Not a fan I see. 😆
I'd be fine with trees and weeds growing out of once pollution belting server farms.
They'll probably be the Superfund sites of the future. And once again, the oligarchs will get away with not paying for the cleanup, the taxpayers will.
I spent a good chunk of my childhood on an Air Force Base later designated a Superfund site. While the military took care of veterans and active service members affected by the toxic chemicals that leached into our groundwater, they didn't do dick for family members.
They told us to tell our doctors what we had been exposed to. That's as far as it went. How many of us are suffering the consequences of their irresponsibility? We'll never know, because they never counted us as important. Our health problems are our problem. They're not going to help us.
And all recyclables be hauled off by methheads.
If it ain’t there yet it ain’t there! Tech needs to stop sensationalizing
I hope people march on OpenAI with torches and pitchforks
It wont.
FUCK every version of AI and FUCK everyone who has worked on AI with a row of servers.
Amen. AI is the worst idea since cellphones.
I wish that there was enough inherent good in people that we could trust it will be used as a tool to benefit society as opposed to a tool to acquire the world's wealth so they can witness the end of days from a spectacular yacht.
Man will ALWAYS use new technology for its worst possible usage. Like the robot dogs. My wife showed me the cute video, I said " it won't be so cute when they mount guns to it." They're mounting guns to them.
Amen
Narrator’s Voice: “None of that came to pass.” (I’m hearing Morgan Freeman)
Roko's basilisk.
Considering AI wouldn't exist if it didn't suck copyright dry. It's like a data vampire. Sooner or later it will run out of things to feed on.
Artificial intelligence is definitely overhyped. We’re a ridiculous species. We want to put ourselves out of work and make 2/3 of the World destitute? How is this good?
We would need universal basic income which they are too selfish to provide
If the tech bros are profiting, surely it'll trickle down!! Simple Reaganomics! /s
They legitimately want the population around 50k, with robots to serve them and their progeny. I'm not kidding.
They don’t see that erasing consumers erases their ability to generate more wealth. Eventually, it’s unsustainable. There are countless sci-fi movies showing the likely trajectory of our species. Few end well without major progressive advancements in rights and equality. But, “woke”, ya know?
If the government decided that AI companies are completely immune from all copyright laws, the death of a few kids won't matter to them. If they're salivating over the thought of potential trillions to the point where all copyright is moot, human life? Feh.
Current AI implementations will soon collapse under its own weight and unmanageability. Generated code is next to impossible to maintain.
I hope he has to sell those goldfish eyes to buy food but no one wants to buy stupid used goldfish eyes.
We literally just want healthcare.
