Of course this is a terrible tragedy! AND it was committed by a woman. These are the kinds of situations that test our (at least my) beliefs versus our actions. If you don’t agree with correctly gendering trans people, you can just say that. It is your right. I choose to hold both concepts at once.

Yes, she should be properly gendered, but you sound like an HOA president complaining that someones fence isn't up to code after a school bus crashed into it

If that’s how you see it. I started my original post with ‘this may seem pedantic given the real story’, and you chose to express that it was to you. I shared my view. I suppose we can just leave it at that. Also HOAs are the devil 👿

Next time you feel the need to preface something with that statement, maybe just don't say it.

You are right. In times of tragedy, which will draw the MOST readership from those that choose to not recognize transgender people, those of us who do should stop caring about gendering them correctly? That is stupid and frankly an excuse. It validates the ignorant. Be that person if you wish.

Is that better? I was easing into it so it didn’t immediately alienate. Many of us talk a big game about loving and respecting transgender people (and other marginalized groups), but are quick to excuse our own missteps when the shit hits the fan. There… that’s what I wanted to say. I feel better.
