Loved the Lymond Chronicles - so cool it’s something studied now!

Book cover for “Game of Kings”, first in the Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett, shows an idyllic landscape painting of Scotland above and a faded ghostly old sepia photo of a lone castle on a rugged hilltop, below the title. The Game of Kings is historical fiction at its finest. (pub. 1961)

Oh - sounds wonderful! I love historical fiction, and tend to read everything by one writer before I move along!

Well, then, you’re in luck, Susan! I think her books are brilliant. And inspired Game of Thrones♟️🏰💕

😉 No, it's a bit the other way round. G. R.R. Martin was certainly a wee bit influenced by Dorothy Dunnett. Game of Kings was first published in 1962. If you like a gripping story with excellent research behind it, this is the book for you!

Yes, I think that’s what I said, she inspired him. The Game of Kings was first published here in the US in 1961, I believe. A Game of Thrones didn’t come out ‘til 35 years later, both in the States & the UK (1996).
