What young people really think being in your mid-60s looks like:
What young people really think being in your mid-60s looks like:
Anyone who does physical work for decades typically wears out their body long before 60. Wake the eff up you privileged twat.
Amen, sister!
I used to like him. Now I agree, he’s a privileged twat that is maxed out right now and will only go down from here.
SunuNUTS can kiss my grits!!! What age would he like retirement to be at? 85???
They prefer we work until we drop dead.
That dude is a douche. Retirement used to be 65, then they raised it to 67, now they want to raise it to 72. F’them. Retirement should be 62.
💯
Every young person thinks retirement should be in one’s 60s. As it stands right now, full retirement benefits can’t be unlocked until age 70. If the GOP had its way, retirement wouldn’t start until age 90.
66.5 right now, 67 after this year. Waiting until 70 will maximize additional benefits though.
I wrote full retirement benefits at 70 because that is correct.
66 and 9 months is full retirement as of this moment. on its way to 67.
Sununu for SSA ahead!
I think retirement should be in your mid 60’s. I’m 43.
Quick question: how many employers want to hire or continue employment of those over 65 unless they're possibly C-suite executives, doctors, professors, lawyers, or politicians? Many 55+ year olds have a hard time getting a job. I know this isn't the main problem, but it's NEVER addressed!
I am retired and have United Healthcare as my insurance, why do Republicans think we don’t deserve healthcare
Remove the FICA cap. It will affect us, but honestly we will not even notice, promise. Leave the retirement age alone ffs.
They are going to raise it to 70. Watch.
Who listens to these babbling idiots trying to talk over each other all the time? They’re ridiculous.
If they keep repeating the lies long enough people will believe it. He hasn’t provided any factual info or evidence. In fact he stated false info about the retirement age.
"No young person thinks retirement should be in their mid 60s" you are right it should be in your late 40's early 50's when you are still able to move and enjoy life.
60 year olds enjoy life
I had 2 uncles died at 63, neither of them retired. Quit with the nonsense. Neither Musk nor Trump care, it is a way to create a 2 class society.
"the nonsense" meaning believing that a 60 year old can enjoy life?
No the nonsense is raising the age of life expectancy and age of retirement. You should be able to retire and enjoy your 60s but most do not whether due to lack of funds, illness, or death. I hade 2 uncle die at 63. My mom was it from 66 until she passed at 72.
I will tell that to 2 of my uncles that died at 63.
Sorry to hear that. That was my main point. Our lives are way too short to be toiling away the whole time while there is enough wealth in this country where we really should not have to. Greed is a sickness.
But the 60's in when quality of life tends to begin to significantly decline and mobility issues are common. I think what this person is trying to say is that most people have difficulty doing the things they would have liked to do when they reach that age.
Bingo! Plus try doing any manual labor job for more than 20 -25 years and your body is absolutely worn down.
There's a big difference between sitting behind a desk and doing manual labor all day. These privileged people making decisions for everyone else are disgusting.
Statement is correct. Young people think retirement age should be before 60
45
They thus likely to be retired longer than they would work For - which is madness.
as it fucking should be. We should not have to work until we're near death. e
As someone who isn't a young person anymore, almost 50, I can agree. I watched both my Father and Grandfather enjoy 3-4 years of retirement before succumbing to heart disease. My Mother had a stroke 3 years into her retirement. It's bullshit is what it is.
My father worked 40 years as a teacher and died from a heart attack at the age of 62. He was 14 days out from retiring when he passed.
There are too many stories like this to be honest.
My dad's friend worked 60 hour weeks for 40 years only to retire and almost immediately find out he had terminal brain cancer. It's terrible.
I’m so sorry for your Dads friend. Too many stories like this and it is so wrong.
Know someone now, retired last year. A week ago he was told he had metastatic cancer. No chance. Common story in a country without healthcare for all and where employees are treated like they are worthless, lazy, and easily replaced.
Yes and even if you have somewhat decent healthcare you gotta take time off, pay the co-pay, then the deductible which again if you are living check to check $500 for an MRI is still $500.
But - medical treatments are much better now - hence the average age of death in the USA (whilst decreasing) is still >75 years. Cardiac disease is less common - statins and interventions.
So?
So - you need to include relative life expectancy into these equations and, work out how prolonged retirement is to be funded. I’ve chosen to retire after 65 (as long as I can still work safely). How does a society with fewer workers than retirees function. I’m not an economist but….
No. Life expectancy should have no relevance to retirement age. If people are living longer that’s more time that should be spent on themselves not working for the wealthy. Automation and technology should replace the need for people to work at all in many cases
It's not like it's an equation that is impossible to solve. Raise the SS cap which is at $175k. Or cut Military Spending by a few percent and move that to retirement.
Ultimately, you can retire whenever you want to. I have friends who work in the financial sector who have retired at the age of 40. That’s because they had obscene salaries. If you want to retire with Money, then most of us have to work a long time.
No you cannot retire whenever you want to. The capitalist machine ensures that’s not the case. Healthcare continues to cost money as does food and shelter. We need to fix the retirement process, bring back pensions and stop capitulating to fascism.
It isn't about living longer, it's enjoying the end of your life.
Its more about quality of life. I'd rather die young than suffer for decades, years
I could not agree more. In my professional life I see many people who exist and don’t live. I tell my patients to future poof themselves - control what you can - keep your mind and body fit. Keep up your skills, read, hobbies and strength.
poof?
Oops!!! Didn’t have my glasses. Proof!!! Sorry
My step-dad was forced to retire because he has dementia. So he doesn't even get to enjoy ANY of his retirement because his brain is swiss cheese. He's just angry all the time because he doesn't know what's going on. He think it's 2011 and thinks he's gonna go buy a truck and get back to work.
My aunt, my mothers twin was forced to retire from stroke induced dementia as well. They basically just walked her out, said enjoy your retirement. After that she basically withered away slowly.
I mean, at this rate, if we have 401(k)s (which are currently tanking), they won't survive until we're of ripe retirement age. Also...what's retirement? I'm most likely going to be working until I die because I won't have a 401(k) when I'm old enough to retire... Let alone SS.
Where is this study, survey, statistic? Seriously. Where are you getting this from? I've never heard of "young people" making this claim.
Sununu is finally showing his true colors… he’s always been an a-hole… as so many other Republicans and MAGAts are
Just like his father…
He's always shown his true colors. Ever since he was elected and especially during the pandemic... NH hasn't had a Dem as governor since 2015.
Always dividing with these assholes. The old vs the young, the black/brown vs white, women vs men. When they group one against another they are scapegoating and lying. Most young can’t afford to take care of grandma or dad.
Sununu is ABSOLUTELY correct...no one think retirement should be in their mid-60's. It SHOULD be in your late 50's or maybe early 60's. It should not be retire and die or have a serious health issue right after that. You should have several / many years to enjoy retirement.
He’s not embarrassed at all not knowing the current retirement age while on air advocating for raising the retirement age. There’s that typical Republican out-of-touch white savior attitude on full display.
He doesn’t need social security so he doesn’t give a fuck
Sununu has been kissing and licking and making excuses for the King of the Gold Crapper for years. He’s supported a organized criminal cult and Gestapo Remember his daddy was a loony tune also
Just because those aholes want to actually die in their offices because they are too greedy to let go doesn’t mean we all want that. Some of us actually want to spend time with our families and relax at 60ish. He can fuck all the way off… ALL THE WAY!
These people are so out of touch I can't take it.
Sununu’s callousness about the retirement age aside, the truth is that its democrats in congress don’t ‘want them to get touched.’ Republicans are all for dismantling benefits Americans earned through their hard work, except as they’re running and hiding from their rightfully outraged constituents.
I can’t stand him! Not very dang senior is physically able to work until 70! Republicans want Americans to work until they drop dead!!🤬
I’m 55 and would retire tomorrow if I could… I still have to work 10 years to reach the retirement threshold… I’ve been working since I was 12… I think I’ve done enough.
Sununu is FoS. It's a contract. You can retire at 62 but you will receive less or you can pay in longer and get back more monthly. It's a choice you make based on your preference. This is all Republican BS made to obfuscate the fact that Rs want to eventually remove the employer contribution.
Every young person, who has seen their parents age (especially those working blue collar physical jobs) would darn well say “retirement should be mid 60s”
My parents are 63 and I don’t see either of them retiring anytime soon. It makes me so sad.
That lazy fucker wouldn't last 30 minutes on a treadmill let alone a saw mill. Or a coal mine. Or on a roof. These fuckers go to the gym and ogle the young girls and think that's a workout. And BTW young people think mid-60s is ancient. He flatters himself; the young girls think he is an old troll.
F**k HIM
I hate to bring up the obvious but so many people are dealing with long covid they won’t be able to work at all.
Reading a lot about how many 60 year olds are already washed up. What if you still have gas in the tank, but suddenly find yourself unemployed? Lots of luck finding another job in your field. If they want me to work until age 70, they better find me something meaningful to do.
💯
Yep. I am a software engineer. At 62, I wouldn't get a pre-interview from an HR drone, let alone another job. Ageism is real. Thank God for Tricare.
I'm a retired programmer. But I'm 72 & they lost interest in me as soon as my hair went gray. Thing is, I really love programmer computers & I've stayed current just because I can't leave it alone. I have my own windows server with SQL Server. And I'm a full stack . Net Core MVC web developer
That's why I never grew my facial hair while I was working. I was blessed nor to have gray hair on top of my head, but my beard is salt snd pepper. It adds at least ten years.
Who would ask a young person when they think retirement should be (though they likely want to make lots and retire early)? Our bodies and faculties increasingly decline with age and mortality numbers increase. This guy wants people to work to death.
I think a better question for Sununu would be asking him why Elon Musk cut the DOGE cost-saving estimate by 85% like that chyron is saying. (I know the answer is "because he lied," that's not the point)
Politicians get a pension for life after 2 terms. And healthcare. He’s so out of touch.
"Benefits for me, but not for thee!" Arrogant, entitled bastard.
Of course young people don’t think they will want to retire in their mid to late 60s. They’re young! When a person began work at 15, by the time they get into their mid to late 60s, most are tired and ready to retire!
I was ready in my 50s.
It's 67. Whatever, young people don't want to retire in their mid 60s. What a fucker
My parents both retired in their mid-50s. I’ll be 61 in November. After working in nursing my entire professional career (and surviving the COVID pandemic) I’m so very ready to retire. Sununu is out of touch.
He’s actually a straight up asshole. Congratulations on your retirement. Well deserved.
I’ve got at least 4 years to go to be Medicare eligible. If that will even be an option in 4 years. 🙄
In dropping to their knees to gag on Trump's disappointment mushroom, all @cnn.com did was turn this shitshow into MTV's Real World, but for fascist assholes and people addicted to rage bait. @abbyphillip.bsky.social should be embarrassed
@acyn.bsky.social Your post is in this Newsweek article. www.newsweek.com/republican-s...
Why is it none of these people have a clue about what they’re talking about? There is a minimum age to collect social security. You can retire any damn time you want to!
He doesn't know what he's talking about but wants to move retirement age past life expectancy. They want all the money.
Wait.. no young person thinks the retirement should be as *low* as the mid-60s? Has this guy ever met anyone under 40?
I can't wait to not retire until......70 years old, when the life expectancy is 74.
74 (or whatever it is), for now. Just wait until RFK Jr has been around a few years.
Those of us in our mid 60s who can't retire till we're 70 seriously think retirement should be early 60s
Have you ever met anyone in their 50-60’s who actually- works- in any industry where using their body is required who has all the parts of their body fully functioning or pain free. If yes - widen your horizons and stop being so egocentric.
Here I sit thinking maybe I'll retire at 70...I'll be 60 this year. Meanwhile, my sister retired at 55 (2 years younger), her husband plans on retiring in 3 years ...he's 54. My nephew is 38 and plans on retiring in 4 years. See a pattern. How you ask...They're 1%. And talk about golf. All the time.
If everyone in the US had a white collar job I might agree. They don't. My dad was a maintenance man. He spent most of his life working on water heaters or out in the sun w/ AC units, etc. By retirement age he was a wreck. Just physically couldn't do it anymore. Republicans love to ignore this.
Sitting at a desk 8-10 hours a day isn’t good for you either.
It's a lot better for your joints than slugging around 50+lbs hunks of steel, lumber, equipment all day long. C'mon man.
It really isn’t. Sitting for prolonged periods of time can lead to musculoskeletal issues, joint swelling, increased cardiovascular diseases, & cancers. I’m not trying to minimize the consequences of labor jobs, or anyone’s jobs. I’m saying no one should have to work past 60 because it’s unhealthy
I don't disagree entirely, but you've gotta be aware that there's a categorical difference in the level of damage from jobs requiring intense physical physical labor over decades.
If you don't get it, take a single week and work air conditioning repair in Florida on tar roofs in the summer (one of my dad's jobs) and let me know how it compares to working in an office and then let's chat.
That’s why you work out AFTER WORK! We’ve done this to stay alive so we can reap the benefits of a system WE PAID INTO!
No shit. It’s still not healthy to be sedentary for long periods of time.
Bud, as a steelworker, you need a reality check.
I’ve been on both sides of the fence. So, no, I really don’t.
Only so many hours in the day unfortunately, not everyone has the time. ;-;
Lot of people can stand while working at desk or get up and move around. Additionally your feet and knees are probably fine and you can exercise. Worked with many men doing physical work. Lovely handwriting in youth. Chicken scratch over 40. Hands busted up, stiff. Same 4 backs, knees, shoulders.
Ina modern office there will be managers totally freaking out if you regularly get out of your seat, then you get bad reviews and are fired. And once you have passed 50 (lower for women) you won’t be hired. Also hours are often way more than 8 hours. My record is 27.
Let's get real, here. My dad is the one that did physical labor his whole life... I, on the other hand, have been white color since I left college. There is absolutely no circumstance where I would trade jobs with him... Ever! ... and you wouldn't either even tho sometimes office work sucks.
Yeah, there are downsides to office work but almost all of them are better than what you get being a roofer or shimmying into crawlspaces to fix plumbing or whatever, as far as physical impact goes.
FYI, I'm over 50 and I work in tech. I agree with you 100% about the ageism, sexism and long hours. It still ain't the same as wrecking yourself with intense physical labor.
Some jobs are worse than others. I worked in a warehouse once. Repetitive, heavy lifting and shitty management. We had 50 year olds there who were totally worn out. But my original profession was as a mechanic. That is much better though some heavy lifting is involved. And diesel!
You have to be working for someone who is both ignorant and an ass.
Middle management is very often pressured from above to do exactly that. It's actively detrimental to productivity and morale; an antiquated process.
Yes. Apparently my company is starting ‘rank-and-yank’ now, years after it was shown to be one of the worst policies ever at work. It is making work hell. Office bullies love it though; despite rarely working at all they are so rarely yanked!
I am. Add misogyny to the mix and work sucks.
Sorry to hear that.
Alex has never baled hay.
I’ve worked both blue collar and white collar jobs; both types have ways of wearing you down.
People who have white collar jobs want the retirement age to be 65. Ive worked in corporate America and by the time they are 60 they are totally checked out. Working your butt off in a cubicle can being mentally draining beyond belief. You should see some of these people in their 50s in corporate us
Has nobody mentioned that it's already 67?
I’ve worked both ‘white’ and ‘blue’ collar jobs, and can inform you both will wear you out. Different dynamic, but sitting at a desk staring at a computer screen 12-14 hours a day is NOT a fountain of youth!
I don't want to work until I'm 70. No young person does either. Hell I'm young. Republicans are so out of touch!
He has no clue what the American people want or need.
Just wait until you get there. You do not know what your health situation will will be.
Fuck this asshole
Congress put the cuts in the CR. That guy is 🐂 💩. No I don't accept it. Bite me.
They will have you work till your dead. When I was young I had a plan to retire at 45. At 60 I hope I can afford to retire at 65. In the current for profit environment still supporting my college educated kids who are working. The system is rigged and getting worse due to talking heads like him.
Do they REALLY want people to stay in jobs longer keeping younger workers unemployed?
This bastard is a fascist every day all day.
Like a bad penny or a pen that doesn’t work. Chris Sununu turns up just when you think he’s been relegated to the corner of obscurity.
The voice of privilege. 😒
🤭 gawd, poster child for the GOP: former Governor, has no idea what retirement age is, 2025 Net worth $5 mln
As an American who depends on social security disability and Medicaid, I would not accept losing my benefits.
Move retirement age to 55 so Americans (aka "humans") deserve to live without earning money after a lifetime of working in America.
Why do they keep talking to him?
Simple: rating. So they can post stupid clips like this and enrage and divide Americans more
Says a guy who has never done manual labor
He's led an extremely privileged life, first as son of the governor, then essentially handed the governor position due to name recognition and his 'network', acquired through his father. This POS wouldn't last through 2 days of manual labor and can stfu about what others will 'get used to'.
He pulled himself up by his daddy’s bootstraps! SMH New Hampshire really is becoming North Alabama…
📌
Been saying this for months, especially with the medieval legislation that keeps getting passed by the Republican super majority state government. And these clowns keep getting voted in even though they've been dismantling the state for years. #Help
My thoughts: No one is one really voting for them, they have the lowest ratings ever and they get re-elected. Someone is cheating. It’s so obvious.
I don't know what happens in the voting booth, but the disapproval ratings-to-reelection journey is extremely odd. Kentucky is the same way--Mitch McConnell has bottom of the barrel approvals, is absurdly wealthy, votes against constituents interests every time--& always gets re-elected.
Actually, if you do the math on economic and productivity growth we should be working 4 day weeks on our way to 3 days and early 50s would the right expected retirement target for our kids. But, that’s math and economics, he’s a man of ideology, of faith.
Who the fk thinks we don't want to retire earlier. Who? Who is this sashole?
He doesn’t know the retirement age?
Young people don't believe they'll ever retire. These assholes are the reason why.
I'm 44 and have been saying for years that the last gen to fully retire will be the Boomers. Sure ain't gonna be us, mainly bc we've all been priced out of it. Now, would you like paper or plastic?
Right? I'm 42 and they actively told us that we're never gonna retire.
And late boomers soc sec is in trouble
It's too transparent. They want the age to be whatever age most of us will never see after we can't get healthcare and can't work for livable wages or collect a reasonable retirement income. It's obvious they want us all dead before retirement is ever an available option.
The problem, which these people never address, is that most people can’t do manual labor into their mid-60s, much less 70s. Blue collar workers get injured, or just worn out well before then, and don’t have much prospect, as a roofer in their 50s, of getting an office job.
Which is why raising the retirement age will do nothing more than cause more people in their 50s and 60s to file for disability benefits.
No ones hiring a 60+ worker or probably a 45+
I fucking think so
Gaslighting!!
All these “let them eat cake” style attitudes are flirting with disaster. Maybe a requirement for elected office should be having to survive a couple years just on your own efforts- with no hand out from family.
💯
This is a LEADING Republican....a former governor, and he thinks the retirement age is 62 or 64!! It's 67 .... this is where we are at with these GOP morons employed by CNN
Anything and everything EXCEPT FINDING A WAY TO MAKE FILTHY RICH PEOPLE PAY MORE!!!!!!!
tRump & his cohorts have NEVER REALLY worked PERIOD. When you're born with a silver spoon, you can blow smoke about success. They also have NO IDEA of the mental stress of worrying about bills either (which ages you). I couldn't afford to play golf or miss THAT MANY days of work to play golf.
People in France took to the streets when retirement age was raised from 62 to 64. I love the French. And also. This is an average, btw. Many die before they reach retirement age.
Rich thugs LOVE to dictate what's best for the working class. They have no idea, & don't give a shit about people.
Democrats will pick up 100 seats in the House and 20 seats in the Senate in 2026 if this Congress cuts Medicaid, Medicare, and/or Social Security. Americans will not accept cuts to those programs Democrats need an information program called "Tell-A-Republican" to inform them what Congress is up to
No they won’t. The SAVE Act will make sure of that. Disenfranchising women and poor and shift working voters who don’t have the passport or whose birth certificate doesn’t match their ID and can’t get that easily fixed. On top of gerrymandering and limiting polls. They have it figured out.
Wtf. Working until 67 and then barely scraping by on SSI. Yeah young people are chomping at the bit for you to raise that age.
Man of the people right there.
Ridiculous. He is in office and doesn’t know the retirement ages outlined by Social Security? Send him a memo-even repeated, repeated, repeated lying will NOT get the American people to swallow this one. Even the MAGAs. People do want to retire.
Sununu is a braid dead fucking moron!! Theres no nice way to say it. What is wrong with this guy not everyone sits on there ass collecting money from taxpayers like you do Sununu. Some of actually work in labor intensive jobs that take a toll on our bodies. You sir are fucking asshole!!!!!
Why are people who do NOT pay into the system have ANY say on how the system is being run?? Funny they all want to raise the age, but NOT the cap on wages….EVERY Dem should hammer this home!
Wow is he off. First of all young people are young so they don’t know what 67 feels like. But the young people I know are totally on board!
In fairness, if his plan is to join the gerontocracy that is Congress for the rest of his working career, then being in your 60s is just a warm up.
Most people die within 10 years of retiring at 62-64. Nobody should have to wait until their last few years to be able to retire and enjoy what little life they may have left. To force retirement age up is just "extreme abuse" towards all Americans. Retirement should be the comfort easing of life.
Fine if you are in Congress and scheduled to work less than 200 days a year in a cushy job with top notch medical care on hand and get wealthy on insider trading and many times, are not even at work when you are supposed to be. Been living the good life all along.
The ridiculous argument of "no young person thinks that retirement age should be in their 60s" is misleading propaganda to try to short change retirees and mislead the reality of when most people will retire not by their choosing but because of actual reality of necessity. Why? Here's why 👇
What a shit show!
The reason why I quit watching @cnn aka Fox 2.0 👎
FFS you are lowering life expectancy and returning to child labor, they absolutely DO want a chance to retire before you work them to death.
Let’s raise the income cap and means test instead.
Sununu doesn’t know the retirement age? He’s old enough to know this. I retired with full Social Security benefits at 70. You can retire at 65 with reduced benefits from Social Security. As a state governor, he should know this already. He should do some research before he speaks.
Uh, yes they do. You know how many people I heard talking about retiring early?! Unless you're doing something you love, you don't want to work until it breaks you down mentally & physically. JFC
I'm in my late 50s and I don't think retirement age should be mid 60s. Fuck all y'all sideways.
51 here and my husband is 53. I know we have had enough already.
I’m 62 and I’ve had enough, I just don’t have enough 🤣
Says someone who never worked a blue collar job in their life. Fuck Sununu.
I worked a white collar job my whole life, just retired, almost 68, painful arthritis in hips, neck and thumbs. It’s not just blue collar jobs. When I was younger, I thought moving retirement age to 70 wouldn’t be a big deal. I no longer think that.
Agree. Try running a jackhammer for 40 years in the blistering heat and frigid weather conditions.
In u.s. it’s DIFFICULT to find work in your 50s let alone 60s. The 50 year olds are the first to get hit in a layoff. And it keeps happening.
"Musk lowers projected DOGE savings from $1T to $150B" so he probably pocketed the $850B. BTW, remember this in France back in 2023? www.npr.org/2023/03/20/1...
Ask anyone if they're good with raising the retirement age and/or reducing medicaid/medicare. Then ask them how much they're worth. If their current wealth already covers the rest of their life, their opinion doesn't count.
Just for context; in Germany, retirement age is 67 yrs old for those born after 1964 (full pension). Early retirement is between 63-65. Anyone who has paid in for 45 years can retire at any time. Pension is protected and not subject to market movements (libertarians want to change this 🙄)
Of course they do. Anytime criminals see a large pool of money accumulating that isn't theirs, they set their sights on it.
Sununu is a nepo baby who has no idea how real people work and earn their money
Rather than just making billionaires pay a little more they are going to make all of us pay a lot more with the most important resource there is…our lives.
With our terrible healthcare, unreachable for many, life expectancy is decreasing. So why have retirement at all right? And removing child labor laws so we can just work cradle to grave. As long as the oligarchy get theirs. Wake the fk up, MAGA.
It's always a pundit who does not rely on or even need Social Security that has these views. Always.
Sununu is either ignorant or he’s lying purposely. Age for full SS benefits has already been increased, for those born after 1960, to age 67, up from 65.
It’s both.
Businesses have been decimated due to this economic disaster of a pre$ident. Closing two stores and downsizing is our only option. Firing ourselves. Thanks, Agent orange.
People in their 20s think 60 is at death’s door.
No. Americans will not just accept cuts to medicare and medicaid...and watch their retirement age projections soar...
I despise Sununu. He knows what the retirement age is. He's a fraud.
Such BS. I am NOT working to 65. I’ll live in a shack in the middle of nowhere if I have to. My hard working & beloved dad retired at 70 and died at 74. I’m not letting that happen to me. I want to live life while I can. No commuting. No emails. No meetings. Just me, my garden, yoga and dogs!
I just retired at 65. Every day I went to work was complete torture from PTSD. I couldn't work another day. I worked in medicine.
Sununu is as righteous as they come. He has no idea what real hard work is. All he can do is talk, and lie….he always sounds like he just snorted a line too.
Probably did! Legal drugs for old people!
It’s 67. Do your homework. I was born in 1959 and it’s 66 and 10 months for me.
These people say absolute crap in an attempt to gaslight and brainwash people. We have to make it stop.
Hey Sununu, we could remove the cap on paying into Social Security.
Keep your #HANDSOFF my social security! Or do I need to put my hands on..... you.
Fk Maga
62 or 64? Says the 50 year old ex-engineer/ex-Governor Multi-Millionaire who has never done any hard labor. Reminder, his Dad was the Governor of NH also. Talk about privilege!
Another reason why I just can't watch CNN with these morons like Sununu or Jennings, etc. Republicans are way OUT OF TOUCH and OUT OF LINE.
I don’t blame CNN for putting him on the air. Everyone should see and hear the ridiculous views and policies of the conservatives
My issue with CNN is that they don't fact check and/or push back. Some host do sometimes, but it needs to be done continuously. To allow someone to carry on lying without correction, is just wrong.
Agree 100%
🤮🤮🤮🤮🖕🖕🖕
My advice is that when you decide to apply for SS that you calculate how many years it will take to recover the lost income if you had retired earlier. In my wife’s case if she waits to 67 yrs. old it will take 13 years to gain back the 2 years of SS income she passed up at 65. Not worth it IMO.
It's absolutely ridiculous that you have to work until you are 3 yrs away from SEVENTY to get full SS. Which is not a lot of money to begin with. 🤬 WTF?
Don’t do it. How much more is it at 67 than at 65? If you calculate your benefit at 65 & multiply it by 24 months you’ll know how much money you passed up to wait and get full benefits. If full benefits aren’t that much more the you’ll have to work several years to recover what you passed up at 65.
Appreciate the input. GenX but I'm not past 60 yet and that wasn't my point. I'm also still working. You shouldn't have to work until you are one foot in the grave. They need to *lower* the retirement age to at least 63.
Total value if you die earlier vs cash flow if you need it. Here’s mine. I’d have to live to nearly 78 to break even, but I’d also have nearly $500/month more for that time. I’m healthy now, and don’t hate my job, so I’ll play it by ear.
It does also matter if someone is still working and paying in to the system. That’s not the case for us.
Political solution is raise the cap, get universal healthcare and sanity into the housing market, and maybe young people will want children again. It’s tough to make that call with the challenges facing y’all now.
This. 👆 Raise the damn cap. Until we get #CitizensUnited overturned, Universal Healthcare is a "pony" per HRC. 🙄 Our politicians are owned by #BigHealthcare and #BigPharma - in turn those are banking on #racism & #bigotry to keep us paying into the for profit system. #NotMeUs #m4a #feelthebern
Excellent! Live long and prosper!🙂👍🏻
Actually, I’m pretty sure “young people” think mid-60s is old as shit. Many folks don’t make it to 70, but sure, let’s all work until we drop dead in the fields making money for the untaxed billionaires.
Yeah we think it should be 55
Traitor.
I was a physical therapist. Can’t tell how many people drag their poor bodies around just to make it to 65. And most can’t afford to take off 6-12 weeks to get needed ortho surgery of a knee, hip shoulder. They have no clue
Most Young people don’t have any concept of old age. Why would the decision be up to them? 65… has always been the retirement age in Canada…
For most people, the full retirement age is currently 67 years for those born in 1960 or later. However, for individuals born in 1959, the full retirement age will be 66 years and 10 months, effective in 2025.
Woo hoo!!!
It is way to high. While they jet around the world having fun, being served, and own multiple estates, we are being enslaved. Wish America would have had this discussion before the election.
i hate these fucks who have never worked a job requiring physical labor.
If any young person thinks that (they don’t) it’s because they have no idea what it’s like getting older. I’m 52, planning to retire at 60. I can’t imagine working 20 more years. Just the doctors appointments now are a full time job!
I'm a couple of months from turning 62. For me, a full retirement is between 67 and 70 for maximum benefits. The way things are going, they will probably raise the age. They did it to me in the early 80s when it was 65.
The people who should retire at 60 are politicians and in particular presidents!
Try getting a job at 67.
Try getting a job at 55.
Even 50.
I was 47 when #GreatRecession hit. My field was torpedoed, & bc of med debt in my 20s, I had too little $ to train for another. I had worked for a major US mag. I have BA + MA from Ivies. But there were no jobs for yrs--not even office temp. I've not had FT work since. The US pushed me into poverty.
You should run for office.
What a kind thing to say. I live in MD, which has a lot of great Dems who have done and can do far better than I ever could. But I appreciate the reminder that almost all of us can do *something*. I wish you well.
I’m so sorry.
Try getting a job at 71.
When he says no young person thinks the retirement age should be in the mid 60s, he knows it's because they think it should be much lower right? Like he knows that right . . ?
Mentally and emotionally, I retired around the age of 35. That was after years of getting shit on by employers. Just wait until you see how few fucks I have to give when I'm 65.
Maybe he's right. Should we have a high retirement age, but offer good pay and benefits to live a decent work/life balance to make a working life a pleasant life instead? Also no.
Don't forget Medicare 4 All during your entire life span.
Well look on the bright side…many of us will be dying much younger than previous generations. No vaccines to prevent serious illness. No EPA to monitor our water or air. No CDC to warn us of infectious diseases. No NCI to explore cancer cures. No NOAA to forecast storms and climate data. Etc, etc…
Just shut up Sununu, really, stop talking. 17% SSA cuts? He's a f&%@*ing idiot. The SSA retirement age has already been moved to 67, many have chosen to keep working longer because of their insecurity.
the 'move the age' crowd has never worked a manual labor job.
Tell that to someone who’s abused their body for 40-45 years doing manual labor and can no longer do their job by 60-65. Or to those who have worked all their lives to the age 65 who now are told they’ll have to work another 5-10 years. Fuck these rich asshole desk jockeys.
Or those who injured themselves due to their jobs even if they’re still able to muddle through afterwards. This country is a fucking meat grinder for everyone except the rich.
GOP has convinced the American public that increasing revenue is simply something to not even consider. Their only approach to cut and accept deficit spending (increase the debt). For anyone who says that government should be run like a business, what business gives fu*ck all to their revenue?
Just another example of being out of touch. It’s hard to be in the younger generations (Millennial on down) and constantly be pointed at to fix the squandering of the boomers.
Ask my blue collar patients that have multiple injuries such as Lumbar herniated disc, rotator cuff tears, and severe OA of their hips, and knees, if they would like to retire at 60?
The French riot when their government tries to raise the retirement age. We don't do shit, and they've raised it like three times in my lifetime. My generation is going to work until we're fucking dead at this rate, after we spend out whole lives paying into Social Security, which we'll never get
I worked in a hospital over years. It’s was hard physically & mentally. At 75 I’m paying for it now.
These politicians talk so smart about things they have never done themselves. Many have been in politics all their lives & never worked hard in their lives.
FULL RETIREMENT AGE SHOULD BE 60… …& payments should be much higher… …& untaxed, FFS… …& all forms of #healthcare (including dental, vision, hearing, mentalhealth, etc) & meds should be totally free! It’s not complicated or radical…it’s what the entire rest of the Western World already fkn does!
I fucking do too .. retirement should be in my 50s even
Yeah young people want to retire at 35 not 65 idiot!!!

I'm not working until I'm almost dead... f*ck this guy. Make me wait longer, and I'll show up at his door. I don't except it!
My dad retired from the army in his early 40's and about to retire from the state at 62.
Any chance of applying the same retirement age to America's politicians?
Don't forget to add the SAME healthcare etc.
Now we’re talking‼️🤨
AMEN
🎯🎯🎯
I think some will enjoy grifting, riding the insider trading waves and playing more golf like the boss.
God no!! Those heifers stay on the job until they're dead or merely brain dead. 🤪😂
AND make them live off social security. We normies don't get pensions anymore like politicians do...
WtF! He doesn’t know retirement age and he is spewing his two cents!!! Not Ok!
What an idiot.
If Sununu is going to open his ignorant pie hole on national TV, he at least should bother to find out what the retirement age is. It's 66 for some us nearing retirement age, and 67 for everyone younger than us, shithead. That's for getting your full benefit, some of which you won't actually get in
actual cash because you have to pay a Medicare premium and you have to pay income tax on the remainder. And mid-60s for retirement for anyone in a physically taxing job is not like someone retiring in their 30s or 40s. Body parts are wearing out for many people by that age. Imagine being a 65-yo
roofer or floor tile installer. There are some still at it at that age, but it's mostly work for a younger person.
You should retire at 62. Period. Tax the oligarchs.
It’s 67 Sudoku-don’tknowshit. And what jobs do you want 69 year olds to do exactly? Work in the factory? Get real dude.
#Sununu doesn't know 67 is retirement age, yet the jackass was a god damn "governor". These #GOP shills project an alter reality, that's 4sure. Are they even dressing themselves up in the morning or they have servants? The more u look @ "elites", the more they look as carnival barkers w/a degree
It’s not insane. It’s reasonable. You,YOU,are speaking for young people. Now that may just be insane.
lol. Nepo-politician Sununu with his Republican “hard worker” hot takes. 60% of NH residents live right along the Massachusetts border so they can suck off our “socialist” state tit because he and his dad and their R supermajority haven’t been able to develop their own robust economy.
You can retire anytime after 62 but you take a hit of the amount of money you get for the rest of your retirement
These GOP act like clowns - they don't even buy what they're saying.
I cant even write what I want to say Except ...let this @##hole do manual labor for 5 years starting at 50 years old and ask him at 55 if he wants to continue for another 20 after that. The thought of working to 75 broken in body and soul like a medieval f'ing peasant.
Sununu is an asshole and irrelevant.
Fucking assholes. I'm almost 64, and I wonder every day if I can make it to 67.
They hitch their wagon to the elitists and screw over everyone else. Why are they never this passionate about raising taxes on the super wealthy? Scumbags!
You will never find a better example of a mediocre dim witted privileged NEPO frat boy than this Sununu Jr. It didn't help that his father was MAGA before Trump.
His father was fucking obnoxious
You ain't kidding.
Americans will accept basically anything.
New Hampshire, please fire this pile of garbage.
There's a piece o shit who was born between 3rd base and home plate.
the same people whose quality of life didn’t suffer one iota when student debt was being forgiven and threw a goddamn hissyfit will now accept *actually* feeling the squeeze? lol ok.
This guy is awful!
Ignorance has seeped into all of our lives.
Sununu is it opportunistic self-serving blithering idiot
I thought I could get behind home (without digging really deep into his actions) but changed my mind after watching his pivot. Ewww.
*get behind him
He was always in supportive Trump and did everything Trump wanted in New Hampshire… Destroying it on so many levels
See, that’s not what I learned. I didn’t study him at all. Just saw him on the shows looking like a moderate. Maybe I started to pay closer attention and that’s why I turned off.
He’s a much lesser man than his father was. And his father wasn’t much.
It’s in the name
He doesn't even know the retirement age, and it isn't young people who should decide when the retirement age is.
Sununu must think everyone in the world has a congressman’s job, earning 6 figures plus donations with lifelong health care, and working a cushy desk job until they’re old as Schumer and McConnell.
I only believe it's not because I fully expect to have to work until I die thanks to them ruining everything for everyone else.
So glad he is no longer governor
Sounds like something Craig Benson would say. I am glad I moved out of NH 20 years ago.
Oh they will when they get to that age trust me
JFC what an out-of-touch idiot to not know the official age is 67.
No young person thinks they are going to die either.
Tell that to a miner. A steelworker. A landscaper. An iron worker. I’m sure that Sununu has smooth, soft manicured hands.
I know people in their 40s whose bodies are broken down from manual labor, and they don't have the mental aptitude to be desk workers; that's why they were doing manual labor in the first place.
Tell that to an auto mechanic who crawls on their knees on a cement floor to set up hoists for 45 years and works over their head and lifts tires off of and back onto vehicles all day every day having never been unemployed.
A nurse
And a soft, smooth brain.
Snunu is auditioning for Trump. He's all in. #Sad
Tell that to someone who does manual labor like a carpenter or a factory worker, anyone that works a regular job. Believe me, you are ready to retire in your 60s. you're tired. You've worked for 30 plus years. You earned it dammit.
Or elementary school teachers!
In the UK men retired at 65 women at 60. Because of the inequality, instead of lowering the men to 60, they upped the women to 65. And now they've increased it again. It's now 68! I reckon it will be 70 in the near future.
I’m 65 still working because of the nutcase in chief. My hips are arthritic, my shoulders hurt, my feet let me know when its going to rain! Yeah, I’m so tired and done! Raising the age is ridiculous. Getting rid of the wealth exemption?… now theres a plan!
Me too! I just realized I’ll be 70 before my house is paid off. Maybe I can retire then, when we have a new DEMOCRAT in the White House.
Who is going to hire you? In the U.S. companies lay off workers in their 50’s and don’t hire them because”too much experience” or “too expensive” but congress wants to raise the retirement age. And yes we will have to work until we are in our 90’s to make ends meet. How the hell does that work?
My thoughts exactly!
Yes, that damn lazy ass f**ker never worked a day in his life.
My mother worked like a dog in a factory, her whole life, and when she had to move and find a new job… she was in her 50s and nobody wanted to hire her. To do the same work she did all of her life, because it’s hard work, she was deemed too old. She’s 66 now. She can barely grasp things in her hands
Why doesn’t that old fart stop talking on behalf of young people. It’s 67 now - so step off goof
