There are protesters, and then there are a small group of people that want to use the crowd size as a shield to do their own thing: tagging, vandalizing, stealing, violence. If we don't separate the two in our minds and in our approaches we will be grouped into the latter.

Thanks - that explains what I'm seeing. As an outsider observing only online, NYPD seems to take a similar approach. My local, small-town police department works so hard to develop community trust and to treat people fairly. I hate to think of the position they would be put in if told to assist ICE.
