Gavin Newsom is trying to beat them at their own game. There’s plenty of blame to go around, but Newsom is trying something new. The “solution” of “admit your party sucks right now” doesn’t fix a thing. The Republican Party is terrible but they always have a trick up their sleeve to win.
It’s not about popularity. It’s about the Republicans ability and willingness to manipulate the system. Trump is incredibly unpopular, yet he “won” twice. Newsom is saying to fight fire with fire. And he’s right. It’s the only way to beat them.
Admitting your faults is the absolutely necessary first step toward finding solutions. That’s true for individuals in therapy, 12-step programs, anger management and rehab as well as for political parties. If you pretend you’re fine as you are, your situation will not change.
