Once done-- Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam and the remaining Pacific territories. That is 5 new states. Excellent time for Re-apportionment and Redistricting, since the GOP is all about that suddenly.
Or, we could just repeal the 1929 law that capped the House. No need for reapportionment if you did that, and it would make the House AND the EC a bit more democratic. You could also legislate the EC to be more democratic (as opposed to winner-take-all).
Could, but a constantly growing House creates its own problems, such as where to seat them (outgrowing the space). The EC simply needs to be removed, probably via Constitutional amendment, as it is ridiculously non-democratic. It should shift to a simple plurality in the vote is the winner.
I don’t disagree, but it’s harder to pass a constitutional amendment (which abolishing the EC would absolutely require) than to pass legislation regarding apportionment in the House.
