If Newsom has any place on a presidential ticket, he's better off as the VP nominee specifically, because traditionally one of the running mate's roles is to be the attack dog against the opponents so the top of the ticket doesn't have to be. He's well suited to such a role for a better nominee.

The job is worthless in that you have no function. You have no power. Almost everyone that's done it has hated it. Gore hated it. Cheney hated it. Biden hated it. Harris hated it. It's not something she has any reason to accept.
