I don't see it as a moral failing in the sense this person probably thinks. I see it an admission you can't be bothered to *genuinely* interact with people. Maybe there's a reason for it, like anxiety over whether we'll all hate you for saying the wrong things. If you can't be genuine, I can't care.

I don't mean that dismissively, I mean it precisely. I can't make a connection to *YOU*. I never MEET you. If you're not going to put your genuine self out there, I can't care to help you smooth a rough introduction over. If you're not going to offer your genuine thoughts, I can't care to hear it.
