the number of people who have told me i was crazy to travel somewhere like tokyo and they never could because they'd be too scared not being allowed to carry a gun

What the fuck? I’d laugh in the face of these people but I fear they might shoot me.
I’ve had casual business aquaintances, who, upon hearing I was presently in New York (I live in Utah), have told me “woah! Be careful!” And I’m like “what? Why?” And they don’t know what to say
I live in Northern Kentucky about 5 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and get the same thing when I cross the river into Cincinnati to I don’t know…..get something to eat. It’s insane.
I got the same shocked responses when I said I lived in the San Francisco Bay, one of the nicest areas I've ever lived. People are brainwashed
are you crazy bro, that's where ninjas live
do they really think foreign countries are so existentially dangerous that they need a gun?
Yes
or the foreignness doesn't matter and it's just big city = dangerous hellhole = need my gun. have encountered both
there are places i'd be afraid to travel (gun doesn't enter into it bc i would never carry a gun) but… uh…………… tokyo……?
I've seen enough anime, I know that city is a hive of Kaiju and school children with superpowers.
i'm not worried about the kids, children like me kaiju tho…
Former Yakuza chairmen who swing around bikes like baseball bats.
I believe many of their hit men now run convenience stores now, if a certain Netflix show is to be believed.
I'm not going to travel to Neo-Tokyo for that reason, but regular Tokyo isn't as bad
They’re afraid of… Tokyo?? Are they scared of well-run public transit?
Not even the criminals have guns there! The guy who whacked Shinzo Abe had to build a Fabulous Contraption and he was able to do that on account of having military experience.
funny thing is guns aren't even illegal in japan, there are gun stores and stuff. even in tokyo. they're just very, very regulated so it's not a problem and like pistols/assault rifles are banned. but if you want a shotgun or hunting rifle you can do that if you jump through all the hoops
Yeah, most of the people who would be Into Guns just do airsoft
My dad, who isn't maga but is TERRIFIED of cities, cannot CONCEIVE of me going to Tokyo, Hong Kong, or Paris (all of which I've done). Or living in a sleepy suburb of Boston and taking the train everywhere (which I do). He's supposedly this bastion of masculinity and cities are BEYOND horror to him.
i like walking and one of my favorite parts of living in east asia is being able to take long walks all over the city at 2 am with zero safety concerns. truly, the horror
I wandered through the streets of Paris drunk at 1AM and it was FINE
tokyo?!? the place with no grafitti? the place with the nicest people in the world? the place with people who will go out of their way to help you get somewhere? that's there go-to urban hellhole?
I saw Andy Garcia get killed by the Yakuza in Tokyo in Black Rain (1989) and I'm not taking any chances.
