yeah spain is roughly the same size and population density as the US midwest and has an effective rail network. it's very doable you'd likely have disconnected networks--a big one east of the Mississippi, another west coast, a third sort of center-south, rather than one unified one
also that train station in cincinnati has three trains per week serving the population of 2.5 million if you live in cincy and want to get up to take the 2 am train to chicago occasionally, hey, neat. otherwise...
here it's literally the law. phones are banned in all schools in the state. the only good education law we have
if the phones are not confiscated or locked up they will be out during class time. there is no practical way to prevent this

okay two things for the annoying "but what about school shootings" people a) those are very rare. kids being problems because of phones, on the other hand, happens literally every single class every single day b) teachers are also in the school and have our phones so uh if there is an emergency
did alarm guy tweak it or is it just how the alarm comes with the car? if it's the latter the asshole there is whoever's still putting alarms in cars, complete waste of time but loud asshole is #1 either way
just the behavior difference and engagement compared to when i taught in schools with phones is night and day. it's fantastic (i was a teacher for a decade abroad and now have to student teach to get a proper license to work at better schools it's complicated and annoying)

i'm a sicko who listens to politics podcasts and i skip 100% of interviews with politicians at this point because they all sound the same. i can predict exactly what's going to be said and the phrasing of it
the dem leadership is the most out of touch bunch of dipshits in the country and i don't know how we get rid of all of them and replace them with normal people who have gone outside before there are normal dem politicians they just get marginalized or muzzled every time
parents also tend to take the kid's side on phones in a way they don't with other stuff, and phones being expensive also means admin is nervous about us taking them and will sometimes tell you not to. it's a mess. phone bans are fantastic
scale is part of it. policing the one kid in class fucking around is easier than when literally all of them have phones and the majority are trying to sneak them. many students also absolutely freak out when you take their phone, in a way they don't with other things
