okay two things for the annoying "but what about school shootings" people a) those are very rare. kids being problems because of phones, on the other hand, happens literally every single class every single day b) teachers are also in the school and have our phones so uh if there is an emergency

If only there were some kind of responsible adult figure in every classroom who could manage an emergency situation for the whole class in an orderly way. Alas!

Most importantly, what are parents going to do with that information?

Far too many parents are idiot shitheads who are very likely to give wrong advice to their child that conflicts with what the teacher (who actually knows what they're talking about) says, because they value feeling like they're in control more than they do the safety and well-being of their children

I hate that argument because why would you want a bunch of children to have tiny noise making machines in an emergency

And if you're emergency services, why would you want 627 calls giving conflicting information?

I gotta be honest: as a parent, that really just sounds like a way for me to get to listen to my child's dying screams, and I absolutely fucking don't want that. Like, what the fuck am I gonna do? Even if I'm at my house, the school is five to ten minutes away. I'm not fucking Superman or the Flash

By the time I get to there, whatever has happened has happened. Am I dumb enough to run into an active shooter situation if my kids are involved? Probably. Will it help? Seems unlikely. I guess if the cops are Uvalde'ing it up, maybe, but I'm a middle aged lawyer, not John Wick.

I'd rather my kid just pays attention in school.

As a teacher, in an emergency of any kind I want everyone paying as much attention to me and my instructions as possible, not texting their moms.

Your telling me making classrooms work isn't a precursor to the [redacted] shutting down the internet?
