That's funny because I live in Lancaster County, PA, and we burned down a goddamn bridge to keep the fucking Confederate Army on the West side of the Susquehanna River. If they hadn't lost at Gettysburg, it would've forced them to travel to Harrisburg or Maryland to get to Philly or DC.

"Never burn bridges, unless... the Confederates." That's it. That's the quote. 👍😂

It was a week before the battle of Gettysburg, 1863. Confederate General Gordon took troops into Wrightsville and chased Union troops across the river back to Lancaster. Union General Couch decided to blow up the fourth span of the Bridge from Wrightsville. susqnha.org/riverroots-1...

Long story short: The span didn't drop the way they wanted, so they decided to set that shit on fire instead. General Gordon called for the people of Wrightsville to help put out the fire, but nobody helped, because fuck the Confederate Army 🤷‍♀️ And the following week, they lost at Gettysburg.

I hate seeing a Confederate flag in my county. I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying, "We should do to that flag what we did to the Wrightsville ferry bridge in 1863. Burn it to ashes."

Honesty, tho, there is History in so many places around here. Some people think the Confederate Army was halted completely at Gettysburg, but that's not true. Major General Jubal Early had 12,000 men in York by late June 1863. Gordon only took a small group with him to Wrightsville.
