I feel the same. A lot of my industry friends who all started around the same time I did on social media are in this place. Shameless self-promotion is exhausting. I haven’t completely abandoned my business, but I haven’t really done much with it either. I don’t feel inspired to post anything.
Not just us, a handful of other designer friends are doing the same. Quietly creating and just living and working more privately. It does get weird when people ask “are you still doing your business?” Because they equate social media with being active
I’ve been a “content creator” across multiple platforms since the mid-2000s, and I’m tired of sharing content for free. I have zero interest in trying to get people to buy anything of mine either. I’m working on a big project, and for the first time ever, I’m not sharing the process photos.
I abandoned FB in 2010, tw*tter in 2022 (my favourite platform where all of my fellow industry people used to talk business, share resources, encourage and promote each other; I miss that aspect before we were reduced to screaming), I post so rarely on IG, and then came here..
At this point I don’t have it in me to build up a new follower base. Again. I don’t really want to scream anymore either. Anyway, here is a picture of a cat:
