Since the PLAGUE is making a hot comeback in New Mexico and California, what else should we expect? It’s not like the CDC or HHS is being run by competent, trustworthy scientists with decades of experience anymore. The purge of our brightest experts should make everyone wake up. I’m worried.
It always makes headlines but people have been getting plague in NM for many decades. I read about a 1961 outbreak in Pecos from a prairie dog town in a park. Hantavirus is actually scarier IMO.
It's worth pointing out that the Black Plague has a cure and is easily treated. A Covid comeback would be deadlier than a Plague comeback since it's harder to treat, mostly since it requires a complex vaccine that's a political hot topic as opposed to basic antibiotics that can be obtained anywhere.
Plague is not unusual in the SW and is entirely treatable with modern antibiotics. But, in the current political climate, any reports take on an unusual resonance. Be much more worried about the diseases we haven't spent decades, and centuries finding treatments for. You're right to be worried.
like Sars-Co-V2 was.... we STILL don't know much about covid, ie., long covid, so many diff. organ systems effected in diff people, getting covid is like playing Russian Roulette and now they're blocking access to its vaccine to the majority of Americans for no reason

i worry about drug-resistant bacterial infections... the abs we have for now work great for most of what's out there, but that list becomes extremely short once things start resisting cipro... the damage being done to our federal research programs nauseates me

Get whatever is available right now. You can always boost with a newer one down the road. The effectiveness wanes after about 6 months.

I was told by Walgreens that I can't get the Covid shot because I'm not 65 or immunocompromised. Can't even get it if we pay out-of-pocket.

Next most likely pandemic is bird flu, H5N1. Preparations and studies were underway for a vaccine by Moderna. That's now been shut down by the Feds. If it does happen, it will be very bad. Historically it carries approx 50% death rate though the most recent death rate in the US is lower.
Those people responsible for cutting the funding need to understand one thing, this pandemic, it kills rich people too😳

For perspective I live in the Sierras (Reno/Tahoe) and spends a lot of time there. People are blowing the reports of plague out of proportion. There is always a risk of plague with wildlife-especially squirrels and every year about a half a dozen people catch it, so really it’s just as it always is
Plague is no big deal. You can treat it effectively with antibiotics. The big deal is out there waiting for us and we don't know what it is yet, just like COVID.
Fyi- the bubonic plague has been endemic in parts of Colorado, NM etc since before the 1970s when I first learned about it
