There is a homeless gentleman who lives in a park near me in Chicago. He is a kind and gentle soul & will talk to anyone for a half hour or more as he has many life stories. I rarely have enough time to chat that long, but we often exchange waves. On top of everything else, I fear for his safety.
I fear for the small colony that lives around the corner from me between Jackson Street and Boulevard. They are friendly and kind and they watch for me. They don't hurt anyone.
I had two that would look out for me when I came home trashed. Helped me finagle my luggage, just good folks who had a bad hand dealt to them. Chicago looks out for its own.
