Your Republican government is doing this. The Democrats who represent me in Washington are do not have contempt for law and liberty.

They're statesmen, and statecraft has always been the art of convincing a populace that there's a supernatural order to life, and they, not you, are meant to lead. Bill Clinton's Tough on Crime Act, for example, shows that dems will revoke the liberties of Americans if they think it'll play well.
