The only difference is selective fire. With a bump stock that is a moot point.

Bump stocks are banned in some states, but not others... so, how would you write a law banning "assault rifles"?

Very simple… any semi-auto( or automatic) sports rifle of a caliber >= .223 of any barrel length. Now let go hunt some deer with a nice Remington 30-06.

LOL... and do you think writing legislation to ban those will end mass shootings? Most mass shooting, just FYI, are done with handguns. When these people use larger weapons (like yesterday), the news jumps on those stories so everyone believes those are always the weapons used... but they are not.

No I don’t but it is a step… I know that more mass shootings occur with hand guns, but the rifle of choice for mass shootings is the semi-auto sports rifle…. Frankly Pandora’s box is open, millions of people have them now. There are more guns than people in the USA.

So... what is your plan to end mass shootings?

It won't end and there is nothing the people in the US can do to stop them. The fixation on guns in that country and the ease at obtaining them makes it impossible to prevent any of these shootings. Making it harder to buy guns is one step, but not enough because of the pushback from the NRA.
