My wife tells me that saying that “healthy at any size” is not true is now taboo. I disagree. Who is right here

You are statistically more likely to have health issues if you are obese than if you are not, but I have no way of evaluating any individual’s health situation just from looking at them, so it’s none of my business. So you’re both right.
A big reason why a fat person is statistically more likely to have health issues is the fatphobia of people who work in health care who prefer to tell the person they need to lose weight instead of, like, doing actual tests. By the way.
Also clinics trials that don’t control for weight lead to a standard dose. For example emergency contraception simply doesn’t work in patients over ~175 lbs. That’s not an outcome of obesity, it’s shortcoming of pharma research.
You are right. Virtually any time I hear about the “healthy at any size” movement is when I hear people criticizing it.
I can't figure out why you think you need to say anything about other people's health or size at all.
I think it's best just to mind your own business. You have no way of knowing anyone's health or circumstance. Their health is between the individual and their health care providers. It's just no one else's business and shouldn't be fodder for conversation.
You’re just giving people an opportunity to demonstrate their fatphobia and say really vile harmful shit with this post, which seems? Unnecessary? And mean? For why?
if the question is whether or not it's taboo to say that fat people are bad/unhealthy/gross/lazy/etcetcetcetc, the answer is it's obviously not taboo enough, people do that shit alllllll the time
Taboo? More like nobody needs to hear your (anybody's) guesses about their health and how it relates to their body size. That's between them and their doctor. Anyway, there are good reasons for people to focus on healthy habits rather than size.
I made this like three years ago using a bunch of references if you want the opinion of a random stranger youtu.be/XcdogzPgY_E?...
🤣😂 I like your wife. Bet you two laugh a lot. Tell your wife I recommend that you address intelligence next, whether it's taboo to say some people are, you know. Not smart. After that, attractive/unattractive women (which George Orwell might say "they're all attractive just some more than others).
My wife while she is cooking us a delicious tofu dinner is telling me “you are gonna get yelled at, you are so gonna get yelled at,” for posting this. “It is funny how much u dont think you are gonna get yelled at” Who do u wanna prove right tonight, Bluesky? Me (your king) or a Reason mag editor
I am aware that doing this while also going to war on Sophie from Sophie’s Choice is a … choice

I think, if you poll miniscuses, you'll find it is in fact true. Taste buds however can be quite contrarian.
🙄
Just to be clear: I eat arugula, I drink wine, and I’ll beat your punk ass, Trevor. Outside.
Don't be a dick.

My one exception? @joeldongsteen.bsky.social ;)
evergreen this is an interesting question, though, in the sense that it gives a window into what people HEAR when someone says "health at any size" all it means is structuring healthy behaviors around goals other than weight loss which is intrinsically unfalsifiable, of course you can do that
I haven't heard of such a taboo. I've recently read that it's better for a man to head into later years with a bit of mass--being too lean makes for worse outcomes if you get ill. I know that's not what this is about but it negates the proposition that all weights are equally fine.
Yep. I work in peds and my husband works in geriatric. There are better outcomes for the chunky babies and grandmas than there are for the whisps.
You are technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. But there is a range here. Some people can be perfectly healthy with some extra heft, and others are not. The human body is a wonderful and horrible mystery.
there is a world of difference between being happy in your own skin, and being physically healthy. As someone who has put on a lot of weight due to thyroid problems and having a world of difficulty removing it, I have no problems with my appearance. I DO have MANY weight relatd health problems now.
