It does feel like these drugs are closing in. I've been seeing an endocrinologist, I'm now taking Metformin off-label to help mild insulin resistance and postprandial hypoglycemia. I came in complaining about tiredness and struggling with weight gain. I was offered these GLP things because 1/3

my BMI was just over the minimum where they can start prescribing them. I'm like... If I'm already sometimes hypoglycemic, I'm not sure I want anything that's going to mess with my hunger signals, thanks. Also what happens when I dip below the BMI minimum, do I lose the prescription again? 2/3

Would I have to get used to suddenly having more hunger again, after an unknown period of it being quelled? I dunno. Oof. I didn't like that it was brought up more than once, despite it really not fitting my situation, at least in my eyes. I needed access to more energy above all, not less. 3/3

I've been on Wegovy for the last few months as my GP recommended it after I told him everything else I was trying. I've had some minor side effects but it's definitely been helping. The reduction in food noise makes me wonder if healthy weight folks just never get those extra signals.

Oh I'm glad it's helping! Yes I think different people do experience different signals. Sometimes totally valid, like in response to a big sugar crash and hypoglycaemia, the body of course signals FFS FEED ME! For me I wanted to quell the sugar crashes, not hide the hunger resulting from them.

Yeah, I guess semaglutide could make the hypoglycemia worse then. I've noticed recently I get dizzy when I haven't eaten for a while so I try to schedule my meals so that doesn't happen and keep some small, healthy snacks around if it does.

Yeah, that's not something I really want to make worse! As long as you always have something :)

Yup, for me it's manageable and worth it but of course that won't be the case for everyone.

Wait, wouldn't glp agonists make the hypoglycemia worse?

I'm surprised they didn't prescribe dietary changes honestly

Oh all sorts of things were recommended. Wanted me to see a nutritionist, but it's so hard to get appointments. We eat pretty well - going full no carb is something I try now and again but keep falling off the wagon. Low carb is possible, but from experience doesn't stop low sugar plunges either.
