I actually did in the past use my address bar (which in chrome, and others, is basically embedded Google search) to do quick calculations while on the web - it saved me a few clicks that I otherwise would have needed to go open a calculator app. Does that still work, I wonder...

I did my own image search and ha! Yes that's funny - particularly when they're smiling! I only wish I could be as funny and charming as she is. Good woman.

Finally put up my pictures by @salventius.bsky.social I got at @beyondtellerrand.com - I chose the colours and squidged them around, he turned them into Art! They deserve frames, but until I get around to sorting that out, I figured sticking them up is better than leaving them in the envelope!

Yeah intriguing. And you can't control where people find community. Some will find it online, some locally, some who find community have voices that ideally shouldn't find strength in community (the racist kind for example).. But we can't deny people the making of friends wherever they find them.

Yeah. And as we globalise our social spheres, instead of being suspicious of those from another town, we find other ways to group people and call some "us" and the rest "them".

I mean that's the crux isn't it? Everyone's for rights, we want to know our rights, but we don't want rights for the people who we think shouldn't be here. They should be elsewhere, where they can... Enjoy fewer rights. Or something. Not in my back yard!!

I guess the problem is "wanting to sus your gender" Maaaybeee when in a group conversation, I may want to use pronouns in front of the referred-to person and I probably couldn't then stop myself giving someone a big up/down glance before asking their name so I don't need to use a pronoun at all 😅

In case it's useful to anyone, I just found that I can force a web version of Facebook (I know, strong network effect sadly) on my phone to display well on a mobile screen AND let me open and respond to messages. I opened facebook.com in @vivaldi.com (hopefully this also works with other browsers),

Sara Joy ☠️ (@sjoy.lol) reply parent
insulation makes it hard for the house to spill that heat again. We do unfortunately also notice how much moister the air feels in friend and family homes, when we visit the UK. It's surprisingly different.

Thanks for those! I moved to Germany a decade ago and now live in a house build in 2017 - where I'm the keeper of the boiler (heating & hot water) controls because I'm most keen to meddle with them 😅 We almost have the opposite problem - in summer we get too much sun through the windows and our
Sara Joy ☠️ (@sjoy.lol) reply parent
Yep! I guess to me, the boiler heats both - but I'm no plumber :) Also yeah, if you can avoid scalding hot radiators and still satisfactorily heat your home, winner.
Sara Joy ☠️ (@sjoy.lol) reply parent
Was about to say this! We don't keep our boiler at that temp the whole time - but twice a day it heats up to that and keeps it there for an hour, so it should kill all the germs then. It does cool off over the day, but slowly. We basically heat it just in time for showers/baths & washing-up!

Yep, makes total sense. Basically I have a new phone here, and I'm awaiting a protector and case in the post - lol - I want to start playing with it, but also don't want to introduce a load of dust before the protector arrives and invite bubbles. Or set up the under screen finger print thingy yet.

Also I get that's a tradeoff, either more chance of scratches but less likely to shatter on drops, or very scratch resistant but brittle.

I never did use protectors. I smashed one small screen years ago, dropping it onto aeroplane apron asphalt, but I saw that as unsurprising. They've got harder since, but I was totally surprised by my once dropping a Pixel 4a flat on a wooden floor from only sofa arm height, and smashed its screen.

Sara Joy ☠️ (@sjoy.lol) reply parent
Like everything, I reckon it depeeeends, hahah. Like, yes describing a bit of the graphic vibe is a good idea, I think. Maybe not everywhere all over the place - like you don't have to add it into the alt text every time it appears - an introductory hidden text maybe? But otherwise ...

Screen-reader users: If a website had a lot of graphical elements, e.g. torn paper scraps etc, to give a collagey-feel to it, would you prefer those graphical elements had alt text so you got the feel of the design, or hidden entirely from screen-readers so they didn't clutter up the content?

Oh I'm glad it's helping! Yes I think different people do experience different signals. Sometimes totally valid, like in response to a big sugar crash and hypoglycaemia, the body of course signals FFS FEED ME! For me I wanted to quell the sugar crashes, not hide the hunger resulting from them.

Would I have to get used to suddenly having more hunger again, after an unknown period of it being quelled? I dunno. Oof. I didn't like that it was brought up more than once, despite it really not fitting my situation, at least in my eyes. I needed access to more energy above all, not less. 3/3
