I think there needs to be more recruitment to Bluesky. I think only 35M users total. Compared to twitter I would think this # is very small. Even things like websites etc don’t offer to share posts to Bluesky. Things like that make a difference. Needs a lot more exposure.
I could not stand the pathology on twitter- I was there solely for veganism and on Vegan twitter chat all of it. Too many sickos there for me and felt I was wasting my time between them and the bots and algos. This was years ago before it was X, but seems same now.
I don’t think algos here are ideal either, but also so many less on here as users so not apples to apples
Agreed. It feels like Bluesky is stalling out, and it doesn’t help when the predominant base seems to want an echo chamber, blocking at the mere thought of being challenged. I’m always shocked at the number of blocks my fairly benign posts get on a site that claims to be filled w progressives
Yeah that’s super frustrating- I think too extreme on either side is bad- I think being vegan is naturally progressive and anti-oppression. i have noticed hard core black and white, single-issue thinking in both extremes.
Murdering Animals and their young is extreme. Extreme stupidity is pandemic. Extreme apathy is pandemic. You can’t just decide to do nothing with these people. You have to try to crack their shells...
People won’t change unless they’re ready. If i see a person is curious about veganism and ask questions I will always engage.
That’s great and necessary, but it’s easy. Confrontation isn’t fun but in a lot of cases, it’s necessary. Either way, online reaches and teaches so many people - no matter the instance. My neighbors are barbecuing right now -
stinking up my yard and my home as the smoke enters through the screen door… Every night that Captain BBQ Kirk lights it up, I start a short speech about how he is cremating corpses; how we don’t want to smell this body-part cremation;
…and how as soon as you kill an Animal, he/she starts to rot and as soon as you start to cook her/him, carcinogens are released - so he’s also putting something as unhealthy as cigarette smoke in to my air and the air of others; and last but not least he should know for his own…
good (and the good of his kids) that hospitals are not full of Vegans. I used to have 4 neighbors that barbequed but now, I never see them. It stopped and they feel like outcasts. I said good and pat myself on the back for being brave and creating change.

As a behavioral professional, I assess readiness for change. if a person has no interest, I put no effort. We can provide information & facts but we can’t make anyone change or care. This is for anything in life. There has to be some internal motivation on their part.They have to want to do the work

It breaks my heart every day that most people continue to willingly engage in killing animals and our planet. Big ag has done a great job brainwashing people. Including most of us -until we got it. Definitely a “red pill” experience.
It’s undoubtedly the biggest and most jagged red pill of all. An extremely tough reality to face, but the best thing any of us can do.

Outreach remains difficult. On FB and X there are Echo chambers filled with trolls. Here there is no algorithm. We stumble onto each other by accident.
I think all These platforms have algos to varying degrees. Also, the lack of oversight on ai and bots etc is so damaging on the larger sites- and they want them- Elon Zuckerberg etc. Look at all the election and political Propaganda spewed out and people Believe it. It’s a weapon. 😞

The trolls are around for a reason…..they give us an opportunity to post truths/info/recipes about Veganism that others reading along can learn from. 🌱
We need to utilize these opportunities. They reach so many more people than having a conversation in person in our daily lives.
