When they could just yell angry things at Republicans instead of directing anger at Jeffries …
You'd almost think that deflecting from criticism of Republicans was the point.
Ya think?. 😂
I have asked them why they don't, and they usually say something like "They won't listen to us", as if Republicans are gods of some mysterious alien culture instead of elected representatives put in power by people voting for them.
Just as a fun little experiment let’s all focus at screaming at Republicans for a while and see if that changes behavior across the board… the most frustrating Dems might become emboldened if people signal their readiness to punish GOP
"Emboldened" to do what, though? What is it that you think they have the power to do, but are refusing?
Here's a thought. Instead of attacking Democrats on this election day, we should all be encouraging people to vote blue in order to break the Republicans' supermajority in Iowa.
Great idea!
Pretty much just speaking out in the way the Do Something crowd craves, really. But it seems very important to them.
And yes most of them ARE, but if you want all Dems full time yelling at GOP you better be doing that yourself while committing to vote them all out.
I think their point is that if the Republicans had been blamed for not convicting Trump during the impeachment, rather than them twisting themselves into knots to blame Democrats for Republicans not voting to remove Trump - Democrats now might be more emboldened to file more articles of impeachment.
Why would they file articles of impeachment when they're in the minority and Johnson would never let their articles come to a vote? If we can get the House back in the midterms, THEN we can talk about impeachment.
To more accurately answer your question: in an adult society where Republicans have agency for what they do and Democrats are not blamed for Republicans trying to kill voters, articles of impeachment from the minority would not hurt the party. It might not help, but it doesn't (and shouldn't) hurt.
They would be a total waste of time and wouldn't even make it into the news for very long, if at all.
They would (and SHOULD) make it into the left wing news, but the left wing refuses to help Democrats even if it will cost them their lives, and finds that attacking Democrats from the left gets a LOT more support from the people who are attacking Democrats from the right.
Even when they agree with Democrats, they still need to find fault with them.
Oh JFC.
IOW, the performative stuff demanded of Dems might actually be effective if the folks who demand it most actually saw Republicans as beings with agency. But treating them as acts of god means that only Dems get scorn for not preventing things from what the screamers treat as forces of nature
But since it's all but mathematically impossible to get the 2/3rds in the senate, why bother then? They'll just be dismissed and Dems will be blamed again. And let's not even discuss the shit show of what will happen when Trump pardons himself and his cabinet so the Dems can't indict them.
Because, as before, there can be investigations, hearings etc. that result in getting evidence on the record. It might not be worth it. But it's sure as hell not worth it now.
The problem is that it didn't matter before. Not only did Republicans unite behind Trump, the left blamed Democrats for Republicans uniting behind Trump. We just watched 4 years of Republicans appointed BY Trump keeping Trump out of jail, and voters blaming Democrats for Trump being on the ballot.
Pretty much this. Dems impeached Trump twice, DOJ under Biden indicted Trump 3x and got a conviction in one case, and spent a year warning about threats to democracy. Voters rejected them anyway in 24 and this website is a constant litany of “it’s Dems’ fault / do something! / no not that!” 1/2
That’s no way to build a strong coalition to take on GOP. 2/2
