I don't want him to die without facing consequences, is the thing. Though I guess that will never happen.
I don't want him to die without facing consequences, is the thing. Though I guess that will never happen.
At this point, I will settle for him getting dead as soon as possible
I had the thing with Kissinger where it was “in the end he lived a long life mostly of success and comfort with few consequences and I hate that, but he is still dead and I will take what I can get”. I’m doing the same mental footwork here
It would be nice, I honestly care more about him being gone. The sooner the better. Tomorrow, ideally.
Why not today?
His kids have to watch us all celebrate. That’ll be kinda fun.
I've decided to let myself Be Okay With Natural Causes.
I mean don't get me wrong, I'd be happier if it was Natural Causes In His Prison Cell, but hey
They'll probably pass a law making it illegal to cheer that
Don’t worry, he’ll be remembered as one of America’s worst ever Presidents by historians and - I suspect - the general public. That’s enough for me. (Third from bottom in 2022 Siena presidential survey. sri.siena.edu/us-president... )
I guess the problem is if he and others around him don't receive consequences, it's just a signal to push more next time (as we are seeing now).
Yeah. I don’t really have a sense of how that unfolds. I will say one way or another it’s a rare authoritarian who has a good end.
THIS.
I think in general “reckoning” is an idea humans invented to keep the murder sprees/surrendering to the void incidents manageable.
I wish I believed in hell!
I do, but it’s cold comfort at best
*shrugs, gestures around*
It’s the Pratchett line about reducing the universe to specks and running them through a sieve and never finding an iota of mercy or justice, etc.
The greatest 20th Century philosopher, who just happened to express himself through fantasy novels.
(Sorry to just insert myself like that.)
What the hell is this site for otherwise?
“Oh nooo one of the smartest writers I know is heeeere …”
Smart AND he once got me some free electronics because I was the first person to tell Limor Fried/Adafruit that he made mention of them in an Atticus novel! First and last time a book purchase netted me money directly. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Steve Covey!
Same, bro, same.
There’s a reason this is my pinned post! bsky.app/profile/joel...
The consequences for him are this: he's a terrible, unhappy, angry, deeply miserable person whose only happiness is the momentary thrill of besting an opponent, but it only lasts seconds and then he's back in that ugly mind and body of his, stuck with himself until the minute he dies.
Not enough. I wish it was, but it just isn't.
It's all you'll get, so it's up to you what you make of it.
You're probably right, though I wouldn't bet against a hideous wasting disease that physically torments him, either.
He got covid and was treated with the finest medicines available to mankind and the top doctors in the richest country the world has ever known toiled over him. He's falling apart slowly, and I hope it torments him, because he's not the kind of person to take death well.
My worry is that he's going to Mister Burns it and somehow achieve the exact right balance of deadly diseases so that he lives forever.
If he does that, he will live on in the hell of his own diseased brain forever. It's the worst punishment I can imagine for him, death would be kinder.
I guess what I'm saying is that I crave actual justice, not poetic justice, even if it is unlikely to come.
I would say not unlikely, just impossible. We all want to see him hanging upside down from a lamppost, but it's better to rid yourself of unrealistic fantasies, it's been a decade of 'President Cheeto will die behind bars LOL' and he's still the most powerful man in the USA.
I feel sorry for the people who's job is to take a bullet for him....
True, but not as satisfying for the rest of us.
Musk is the same but with a drug habit and a hair transplant. They both apparently have fucked-up penises. Their punishment is being themselves.
Aye. Wish they weren't taking it out on everyone else though.
The only way I can deal with it is to find whatever joy and creativity and energy I can in my own locality and my own life. I know it's different for everyone. I refuse to let them poison my mind with their shit.
Democrats had 4 years for that but of course they fucked up as usual. At this point, I just hope there's a karmic afterlife that will put him in Gold Experience Requiem.
There are so many people who wake up and check their phones every morning, hoping. I think we'll all feel better and lighter, collectively, when it happens, not just because we want it to happen, but because it still eats at us to wish for it. And then we can just wish for, you know, better things.
At least there is no real heir apparent for MAGA. Vance would get POTUS, but lacks the charisma for the base; his only real GOP party threat is withholding Sugar Daddy Peter Thiel's money. We'll see knife fights to be MAGA heir, and political winners won't necessarily have any MAGA loyalty.
It is up to us to push for Democrats in the primaries who will in turn push for consequences in both 2026 and 2028. Neither Nixon or Reagan were convicted, but many of their staff were. Neither Obama or Biden made sure that a clear message regarding consequences for staff actions were sent.
Even if it were likely, which it isn't, there is an even more miniscule chance that any set of consequences would make even a small difference to him. His long, charmed life is a testament to the fact the universe has not a scrap of natural justice, nor any karma-like ordering influence.
The only possibility for any actually positive change to come out of his apalling example is ours to find and make, and can be just as easily done without his presence.
We had the chance and dems just dropped the ball out for "decorum" reasons. It is maddening to see South Korea and Brazil and being left yearning for similar.
I would just be happy with him going away
You and me both. But at this point, I have lost faith in our justice system and will settle for nature taking its course.
Me either, but it's a consequence of a sort. I wish I believed in hell, because everyone in this admin would be going.
I'll believe in Hell enough for both of us :) And there's always editorial cartoons of him in Hell to look forward to.
Let’s not ignore the world’s largest gender-inclusive bathroom. It’s gonna be the most fertilized memorial ever.
I'm alright with expediency over consequences in this case. Retribution can be found elsewhere
At this point I'll take what I can get
We lost that chance. And it’s why even when he’s gone, others will keep trying it.
*sigh*
Like, if he gets voted out in 3 years and somehow actually relinquishes power, he won't be held accountable. Source: Last time.
even apart from his crimes in office, how many people are convicted of that many felonies and just ... walk?
