I genuinely don’t understand it. I can only think it’s a combination of (a) Starmer thinking he can be Blair, when he can’t, and the situation is very different and (b) wildly misjudging the popular appetite for this stuff and chasing the (right wing) media narrative rather than trying to shape it.
It's like one of those miserable Xmas days when the host spends all of their time and effort on pleasing and placating the horrible drunken racist uncle who is ruining the party for everyone else.

I don't pay a lot of attention to UK news any more (in large part because it's so disappointing!) but I will never ever understand how this is actually a "Labour" government. It's just... bizarre. Honestly I think those ratings are lower than Trumps and gosh knows we are in a deep awful mess here!
