Same, but the two versions are very different things, with different constraints and even aims. Both worthy, IMHO, but only one remains beloved today to the best of my knowledge.

Besides, while they both have the unlike-able and even somewhat detestable Major Frank Burns, only one has the wonderful, complex (if rather stuffy) and very, very human Major Charles Emerson Winchester III as a vastly superior replacement.
Frank Burns wasn't a complicated character. What he was, was the perfect character to make Margaret Houlihan a deeply complicated character. Of all the people in the unit, why was Houlihan banging Frank?
Frank was married, morally compromised, and a blithering dolt. He was safe, in three different ways. The last episode made that clear; Honnicutt and Hawkeye were too tempting and she didn't want to go home with more war baggage than she could carry.
Hmm. That's an extremely convincing analysis of a question I've never thought to ask myself. #HeadCanonAccepted
