There are a lot of people running around wearing the name of Christ, but very few Christians.

The problem with doctrinal beliefs is typically the authors or the source of inspiration is not around to confirm what they meant. So people tend to interpret what it means on their own or allow someone else to determine what it means. There is a reason it was illegal to own a translated Bible.

As a christian, we believe that the Holy Spirit guides the believers to truth. As someone in the anglican communion, we profess faith in the one holy catholic and apostolic church, thru the leading of the Spirit, in helping us understand. I am comfortable and trust my teachers and the Spirit. ALSO

To me the trouble comes not with religion but from dogma. Once w group becomes convinced their truth cannot be questioned they effectively start putting people in camps for conflict. Hold to your faith. But do not let it become a club to hurt other people with.

I definitely agree that dogma has been used a lot to be extremely harmful and justify demonizing and dehumanizing people! I also think someone can have strong dogmatic convictions while still striving to live comfortably and kindly in a pluralistic society

Agreed. It really does boil down to how the dogma affects their interaction with others and whether it causes them to basically turn insular. There is an effect that occurs in some groups where they still have empathy but it becomes extremely focused and insular.

yes there was an unfortunate and awful time when many of the faithful were denied access to scripture and errors filled the church. Thankfully I am in a reformed tradition, and even the roman catholic church has reformed and encourages all to read scripture. ALSO I am currently learning how to

read and understand biblical greek! Its fun and challenging and I look forward to being able to read the new testament in it's original language!

an unfortunately large amount of white evangelicals are extremely hyped by ICE and their version of christianity is devoid of the gospel that is good news to the powerless and poor

Also! Jesus and John Wayne was an excellent read, written by a Christian! So its always helpful to remember that with nearly 2.5 billion christians on earth, the vast majority arent white conservative evangelicals. In fact, many of those being detained by ICE are christians themselves.

I know there’s some of you out there. I should choose my words better. Living in a state with Jesus signs on every telephone pole and red hats running around is making me bitter.

I get that. Im sorry so many christians are so frustrating.
