I like the message, though it is a fairly long-winded way of saying that real altruism doesn't seek reward.

True, but some people tend to be long-winded, sometimes especially if they're a religious and/or philosophical type.

not imho the crucial part is that one doesn't need to believe in a "God" to act morally and humanely.
