tbf, I barely knew anything about HIgurashi and for the longest time I thought it was written by a woman soooooooooooo... I think it can in fact be believable he's a feminist even if you mostly just know bits and pieces from internet osmosis.

The last two episodes of Higurashi were heavily censored in the Console Port to the point where if you use the Voice Mod on the PC version, like 30% of the text won't be voiced. What got censored? Character backstories involving World War 2 along with detailed descriptions of Japanese war crimes.
I'm using the 07th mod to restore the console visuals and Japanese voice acting on the pc version. will this affect the story when I get to that point or does the 07th mod use the original dialouge there. (I'm on chapter 5 rn)
The Higurashi 07th Mod has a "Censorship level" meter in the Customization Options ranging from 0 to 5 where it'll alter the script to me more or less faithful to the PC Script (0) or PS2 Script (5).
The default level the mod runs at is level 2, where it's faithful to the original PC script when it comes to all the important bits such as violence, child abuse, the WW2 backstories, etc. but for small stuff like a joke being changed or the gender of a background character changing it uses the PS2.
Alrighty thank you for the information! I've continued chapter 5 because of this haha!
I cannot explain WHY I thought it was by a woman other than "oh this little girl snapped for a REASON" That or I'm mixing up horror VNs.
not a bad assumption - in reality, ryukishi07 spent a lot of time as a social worker, so he has a very solid understanding of how kids with issues act and what they respond to, what they can find triggering, etc. his sympathies really come through in his writing of children
Oh! That explains why the Silent Hill F trailers just pinged so heavy on the "yes, yeeeeees, we know our trauma psychology" And like, that's not an easy job, makes sense he'd go from that to working on horror projects.
Still, it says a lot that he’s also using his platform as a popular author to educate people about these issues, or at least encourage a little more compassion for the people going through them, especially kids who are labeled “bad” for the apparently unforgivable sin of acting out while struggling.
Oh I didn't know that! That's really cool and sweet, especially with what I understand of Japan's...situation with performing well in school so even if your home life is fine, that sort of pressure will ABSOLUTELY lead kids to act out.
(I will give Persona 5 so much shit for being hypocritical regarding teacher/student relationships, but the parts about suicide, corruption, and just. How a kid deemed "bad" is treated by an entire school? That felt like an insight to a whole bunch of issues.)
(Not saying the guy worked on it, oh no, not enough nuance, but like. Just as far as major media about these topics go, that's one I'm familiar with and it's clear there definitely needs to be conversations had.)
