Yeah...There's still so many risks to nuclear energy too. I'm uncertain if helium has any byproducts, but the waste if it does takes far too long to decay with far too many environmental risks. Plus even with safety regulations built into the reactor, humans are human, and might fuck up in some way.
Also even if these sorts of initiatives would realistically take another couple decades, are we gonna have to start putting regulations on moon mining NOW so we don't completely fuck up tides on Earth?!?

There's definitely a less shiny view of being marginalized within this short story. It's awful to read, but it's a *good* read, because all this hate and pain leads to the exact hate and pain depicted if the cycles aren't stopped.

I really really wish you to stop sacrificing people - trans people, people on our streets, people in Gaza, any people anywhere - for any reason at all. But if you're telling yourself the reason is it's necessary to beat Trump: That is never going to work. You will compromise and get nothing.
The more areas they see where what Trump is doing overlaps with what is acceptable and accepted from a Democrat, the less clear it is that Trump is a dangerous extremist. Not because they decide both sides are bad, but because the idea that it's bad has been undermined.
We've got Trump deploying troops in US cities under the guise of stopping crime, while JD Vance and other proxies make the rounds talking about the horrors of seeing a homeless person and how we should fix this by removing them from our sight.
Once you have decided that sacrificing one vulnerable group is a small enough price to pay, you become more receptive to ideas that make that price seem smaller. It becomes easier to see that group as a problem that needs solving. You're not crass or calculating about it. It just happens.
