Space junk processing center on the moon in case the space junk is too radioactive would ALSO be cool as fuck. But again. Uh. Humans? We're gonna need humans...And those humans better have an extremely strong union.

Also even if these sorts of initiatives would realistically take another couple decades, are we gonna have to start putting regulations on moon mining NOW so we don't completely fuck up tides on Earth?!?
(Sigh) The tides aren't going to be a problem. The Moon's mass is 7.3 x 10^22 kg. If 10 billion people each took a 10 ton chunk of the moon and flung it into space that would be 10^11 kg, or 0.0000000000014 moons. The other stuff you bring up - eg workers - *is* salient, though.
I was mostly exagerrating with the tide element, though I was visualizing half the moon being essentially blown off as people take the lack of regulations as an opportunity to do whatever destructive mining methods they want.
Yeah, it's just that so many people have all kinds of glaring misconceptions. (I blame Space:1999, much as I loved the series - I saw it around when it first aired!)
I love the idea of a Lunar Worker's Union
