There's another common factor (mental illness) which is more likely causative. Depression rates have increased since the mid-20th century for reasons that social psychologists have been writing about ever since. They are roundly ignored because they have nothing to sell.

I don't have a perfect answer; but we *have had sensible measures in place that have been tossed away, such as not allowing DV perpetrators to have guns, red flag laws, prosecuting people when their gun is improperly secured & is stolen & used, bump stock & automatic weapon legislation, etc.

The proportionality in relation to them having one particular sexual identity attributed to them? I'm sorry, I just see it as a sweeping generalization that isn't very profound or that is honestly reaching for a solution or an explanation to a massive problem.
It speaks to the susceptibility of that identity to radicalization compared to other groups, which is a key to understanding why they are over represented and thus key to helping understand how to reduce it. Guns are a bigger part, but identity is relevant.

You're confusing statistical population likelihood with a definite description of individual behavior. This isn't "white cis dudes are murderers" this is "white cis dudes are over represented in murderers, why is that? Can we do anything about it?"
It's because there's more of them over any other male group - which is what I originally said. It seems to me like sexual identity is meaningless in this case, which isn't meant to demean the importance of sexual identity and pride therein.
That's why you would expect to see more in terms of absolute numbers but when 45% (just a random guess) of your population accounts for 90% of a behavior, asking why is of relevance. Its not that a lot of them are mass shooters its the percentage.
You dont have to act on it first and foremost but ignoring it is actively obscuring the issue and making it more difficult. If it was irrelevant ignoring or including it would not impact the assessment.
What if you found out that most of the mass shooters were left-handed cis gendered males? Would you try and factor in why people who are left-handed are included?
I feel like you are thinking im saying their cis maleness causes the violence when what I'm pointing out is their radical over representation is high enough to warrant asking why that is. Like why are minorities over represented in us prisons. (The penal system is racist, for example)
