Anyone who doesn't understand "defund the police" doesn't mean "strip funding from police and disband them" is lying. I don't believe they don't understand it's a shorthand for directing funds to social policy to target causes of crime while keeping the facility to put a fucker down. They are lying.

In my city we spend a lot of money on the police for them to do next to nothing. At least once a day I see someone do an illegal turn and nearly run over a pedestrian right in front of a cop and they are completely oblivious to it. Won't even come file a theft report if the value is less than 2500

I am still on team 'abolish the police' and think that stripping funding from them and disbanding them should be the first steps before prosecuting every one of them under community led restorative justice. Defund was the compromise position.

I don't think full abolition is a good idea, though I do think the kinds of people who are drawn to policing as it is currently performed would be put to better use if they were converted to fertiliser

There are lots of things going wrong here but I think a really basic one is if you start something with "in many ways I think _____ is an idiot" then you should be aware that you really just agree with this one point because it flatters your prior assumptions and it's still the opinion of an idiot
