MPs should be paid £250k but after one term they are all sacrificed to the economics gods by drowning in a salt marsh.

MPs accepting money from Zionists or Private HC providers is a far bigger issue.
The rich kids hate you on here. A Liverpool forum. I think you're spot on.
Spot on, well said. Not sure a few on this Liverpool football forum would agree though. The first comment is from a respected poster who believes the minimum wage should be scrapped and drives a Bentley. www.liverpoolway.co.uk/index.php?/f...
Jesus, I thought Liverpool supporters were mostly a sound bunch. That’s eye opening
To be fair most of them on there are. They've got a small group of Starmerite geeks who rule the roost. So many can't be bothered getting flak. I'm banned.
I think the phrase they prefer is ‘bad optics’, but I’ll stick with ‘taking the piss’.
I think it's tonedeaf and in incredibly bad taste. Let's not forget that they also enjoy subsidised food, housing, travel (as a nurse I had to pay for the privilege to park my car) and - it would seem in many cases free- hospitality....
.... Meanwhile Farage has 800 hours of non MP work under his belt since the election. If that is within the rules, it's obvious the rules need changing. They should be there to serve the people, not to abuse the system and enrich themselves.
My thoughts go back to that face offering Ukraine to be a buffer zone:
They claim the country is doing so poorly we all have to tighten our belts, don't they? Isn't that the supposed reason we need these cuts? Let's see them lead by example and slash their own salaries first!
100% @owenjones.bsky.social Performance related. When the lives of the electorate improve, they can be rewarded. Optics no longer matter to MPs - talk of raising MPs remuneration whilst cutting services and support for those most in need should be unfathomable and shameful. Not anymore though.
Tone deaf. Angela says people don’t want handouts so maybe don’t take more money!
Did you mention almost unlimited expenses, in addition to very healthy salaries?
To be fair, private ornamental duck islands aren't going to pay for themselves...
They should only get raises when other public sector workers get raises. And at the rate they receive. In the last 10 years… that would be very little.
I don't think the question is pay, I think the question is when are we putting the politicians who backed the genocide in jail.
This as well ✅
MP's pay should reflect the median pay of their constituency. With the current state of the democratic process self interest of elected officials seems to be the only topic that they care about.
It's because they don't have any friends!! Compare to Owen, he's supporting his friends even when they're down.
February 2022, when everyone turned their back on the poor russians, Owen stood by them and defended them. Not many have balls to call joint Nazi-russian invasion of Poland an invasion of the West. Owen Jones may be doing a side job for zero-hour contract here, but he's doing it with panache 🕺
We've had nearly 20 years of widespread dissatisfaction with our government; if anything a pay cut is in order. But realistically what percentage of the typical MP's income is their salary? Factoring in the expenses, the free housing, the "gifts", and their side gigs it's a drop in the bucket.
Spot on
£94k is obscene. I agree with your point: keep people who think that's not enough as far away from govt as possible
[insufferable shithead intensifies] Keep up the good work, Sir 👍
MPs should be paid a salary plus perks commensurate to the role while banning all 2nd jobs. They should just do the one job they are elected for.
No
No
Margaret Thatcher was faced with the dilemma of how to give MPs a pay rise without give MPs a pay rise if I remember correctly. She chose to loosen up MPs expenses instead. I would be in favour of them getting a small pay rise (3% ?) and a much much tougher approach to expenses.
Are you an MP?
On top of some MPs they claim extortionate amounts as expenses. Time to redistribute wealth.
The problem is is that MPs have a pay Review body, like Doctors Nurses and many other public services, the difference is that Parliament in the last Tory administration, passed rules that they HAD to be accepted as awarded, prior to that MPs could, and did, turn the award down.
Yes, proportionate to the improvements that the sitting members have made to the country. No improvements, no pay rise. In most business this is a key incentive to perform in your job, why should they be any different. I appreciate the metrics around with are awkward, but how about growth numbers?
