I used to be a real news pervert but I’ve basically only watched the food network this week and it’s going great
I used to be a real news pervert but I’ve basically only watched the food network this week and it’s going great
I've managed to get through the week without hearing one single sound bite of sweet potato hitlers voice. I plan on keeping it that way until he's dead.
I have HGTV or the Science channel on in the background when working from home instead of the news. Been doing it even before the election. Much more calming.
I love the baking shows. That's drama I can deal with.
Me too!! Im really enjoying all of the Holidays Cookie Wars 🤣
Yep! Holiday baking championship, Christmas cookie challenge etc!
I’ve been alternating between Father Brown and Death in Paradise mostly, with whitstable pearl thrown in for good measure. Have not watched any msnbc or other cable news, just local in the morning. Mental health is my priority right now.
Same here. Daily Beans in the morning, then nothing else. Used to watch at least 3 hrs of MSNBC daily. Wonder how they’re doing over there?
I've avoided news outlets, some youtube faves, and some blogs I still follow. I've been working on the side table I promised my wife and watching non-politics videos. My mental health thanks me.
I've only been watching "Poirot" or "Only Murders in the Building"!
Me too
I’m watching The Repair Shop. THE best soul food out there. Lovely people and always a happy ending.
Same. Just finding other outlets
I’m trying to get my Instagram feed to be only pets, goats, dogs, sheep; there’s a prairie dog named Poppy and Tilly G the tortoise and her dog friend Skippy. That’s what I like to watch.
🥰❤️
👍
Haven't watched the news since the election. Can't listen to them disect what the dems did wrong. The media failed us.
I rewatched Crime Scene Kitchen because I feel what happened was a crime scene
Yup, cancelled CNN, FOX and MSNBC. Hardly watching Canadian. No withdrawal yet. In a happier place.
Lol! Same with us. We’re in Canada and we haven’t even turned our local news on as they are starting to be biased and right leaning. Hard to find truthful journalism out there.
I’m watching zoo and vet shows. Less fattening.
Me too + HGTV & Netflix
It really works. If you have AppleTV, Slow Horses is great. Or The Diplomat on Netflix.
Ditto
Bravo/NatGeo and Food network for me and I love it. No news for almost 8 days now!!! It’s fantastic.
I've been binging Hallmark Christmas movies and avoiding any news channels. My existential dread doesn't need feeding. X-odus helped a lot. I'm more functional this week.
ME, TOO.......I THINK I CAN BAKE A CROCAMBOUCHE, AND A YULE LOG....AND A GINGERBREAD HOUSE............
I'm watching British mysteries on PBS. And some HGTV.
That’s always my go to Escape!
Same with me. Day 6 of TV news blackout and I am enjoying the break.
I’ve been doing a lot of food network too. I like The Kitchen but some of the contests get tedious. Also house renovation shows are fun. Looking for a new daily soundtrack.
Went to the library and checked out 2 beach books & a book on sustainable gardening. Escapism.
My wife is doing the same thing. Personally, the meals she’s preparing are WONDERFUL!
I have tried my best to keep the TV off and fill my time touching grass, doing things and talking to people. Sometimes the talking is hard. People want to vent or talk it out. Sometimes it is easy ... Cats and pandas and music. Sometimes people ask what do you want for dinner and a fight starts.
The only news I need is how fluffy is this cake going to come out!
It’s very liberating!!!
Same, but with Gilmore Girls. I’ve never seen it before. It is the exact level of light-hearted and messy that my husband and I needed
Me too! How about that Holiday Baking Championship?! 😊
As long as it’s not Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Guy is a magat trumper.
I’m am doing movies! As of Jan 20, 2025 I will wake up, turn on the news and find out what stupid and horrible crap it has done now
I'm currently binge watching HGTV! I stopped watching MSM when CNN was taken over by right wing zealots and MSNBC was taken over by "both sides". And I'm a self professed news junkie! I don't even watch my local NBC news cuz it's owned by Sinclair.
Yup us too. That and DIY building shows…
They house hunter’s international ❤️ Way better than news!
Discovery channel, Nat Geo, Nat Geo wild and TLC for me. No more cable news
Right?? I switched from NPR to sports radio after 2016 for the a.m. drive, and had just started tiptoeing back into news. Now it's all sports, all the time. And I don't even *like* sportsball.
Same, but the Pluto app set to the Classic Comedy channel or Addams Family channel.
Same.
I stopped watching the news on TV after 9/11. Living in Australia, being told Terrorists were going to kill us got boring, & I really don't care if there's a car crash or traffic jams 50 miles from my house.
Gotta decompress once in a while, lest you completely lose it.
Same here
🎯
Yeah now we're all going to have to go on a collective diet soon.
We’re on the same page. Watching lots of animal and cooking programs.
all over that...these people are competitive and know what they're doing...
Same here. ...
I'd recommend adding some youtube video essays to your diet youtu.be/T0CpOYZZZW4
Same, but with HGTV
I'm done with msm. Haven't watched since Kamala's concession speech. I'm calmer now. I'm still devastated. In 2016, it took 2 weeks before I felt like myself again. This time it's going to take much longer, I fear🥺
I basically know what every "Survey Said!" since I've completely shut out watching ANY news programs at all!
I love cooking shows (cooking, not so much...) and I'm working my way through Master Chef. I had the news on all the time for 10 years and have gone cold turkey. No regrets.
Hi Amy can I please get a follow back
I’m going to try this
I’ve become addicted to watching Asian street food vendors cooking food for patrons. No speaking, just the sites and sounds of food being lovingly prepared. 🥰
same but TCM
Ditto. I was like 8 hrs of MSNBC per day for a long time and haven’t turned it on once since the election.
I’m deep in Great British Baking Show past seasons. Rewatching and trying a few new recipes. Much more fun than the news.
I have not watched any news. I catch weather and that’s it since it’s first to come non
Same and please continue. I'm pretty sure if we cutoff MSM and stop associating w all MAGA beyond when absolutely necessary, we can have a big impact and what transpires. I've stopped communicating w some of my oldest friends and have zero plans to change that.
Samsies. Except the tv hasn’t been on over since a week ago.
Taking a news break as well. Food Network always a favorite.
😂😂😂
British murder shows for me! No news is good news.
I’ve watched RomComs exclusively. Nobody Wants This series on Netflix made me happier for days
Give up and listen to 6music and podcasts … ‘News channels’ have become propaganda …
Same. Audible and binaural music has been my jam this week.
The Food Network has been my go-to, too. I'm inspired to bake a lot of cookies.
Weather channel and Discovery+ over here
Me too! Love chopped & supermarket stakeout 🙂
I *was* a news junkie before the election. Now I AVOID news. No NPR in the car, trying to avoid headlines online and cringing when I do see them. I'm currently into chill mixes and trolling Steam for my next game. I was recommended Hades 2, so I'm gonna try that.
We’ve watched a bunch of old movies and enjoyed them all. Much less stressful.
Winning, honestly
Watching the Ranma remake and a bunch of other random stuff and just staying they hell away from any news that I'm not narrowly interested in.
for my mental health i’m limiting my news intake.
Reformed news junky now HGTV, wondering what it’s like to live without dog hair all over, although I seem happier than them 🤷♀️
Food shows, Murder She Wrote, Dateline. That's basically my survival pack.
I’m relaxed too!
Samesies! I think it’s called trauma. The Great British Baking Show is an awesome rewatch because they cry for each other and you can’t remember who won the first time you watched anyway.
I've watched so much reality TV the past week that I've become, almost, as dumb as the clowns Trump is nominating to his cabinet
😂
I will mourn the loss of Cutthroat Kitchen for the rest of my life.
Last Bite Hotel on Max was a lifesaver for me in October I wish I could watch it all over again!
Same or HGTV
Same!! Rewatching Barefoot Contessa 😂👍🏼
Same here! I needed a news cleansing and probably will be rethinking who to watch when I’m ready to go back
Me too. At the gym I pick the tready and weights near TV w daytime soaps or cooking shows. My 🧠 can’t handle endless T news.
You and I both. Bake the cookies and cakes. That’s all I can tolerate.
I can’t watch news. I’m honestly getting sick from the stress.
And don’t forget TCM, PBS & HSN
HGTV and movies for me 👍
That’s where I went. Last Chef Standing was a winner. 😊
I'm watching Midsomer Murders and Supernatural. Both are working really well.
Same
HGTV for me
Yes, and PBS British series, sports and shopping Channel. No news - network or cable.
Me too! I think it’s been better for me. I may go back to watching Lawrence but that will be all.
Right there with you. Aftercare is especially important when things go rougher than you expected.
Randy??
Just me and endless hours of Metaphor Refantazio and Gilmore Girls to distract myself from the existential dread.
Love that for you! Nothing more relaxing than watching some pioneer woman
Deleted X and blocked all forms of US news including late night tv shows from my intense daily news intake. Cold Turkey. I’m watching period movies. Might need to go full Hallmark Channel.
I feel like an addict. We need twelve step meetings. I deleted all the news and current events bookmarks from all my browsers and devices so I don't weaken and start engaging with the nightmare. I accidentally clicked on something and saw the name Marco Rubio and had something like panic attack.
Little Marco can have that effect. Even when the other place was busted up at the end I'd still refresh all night long like I'd get the jackpot I needed to read.
Don’t watch Guy Fieri
I've just been watching StarTrek. Need the fantasy of a better world at least.
I used to watch a crap ton of Food Network, I knew most of the pro chefs, what was happening in every show, it was really fun honestly. I'm too busy to keep up with all of it now but it sure serves as a great distraction
Nice!! Same here including late night talk shows (Kimmel, Seth Meyers A Closer Look, Colbert & Last Week Tonight) still love them but they’re gonna show some T***p stupidity & it’s just gonna show add to my anxiety. So, just movies n tv shows this past week. Also, limiting my social media.
100%—can’t stand anything else right now. We’ll see it all soon enough on here, and it helps cushion the blows.💙
Top Chef reruns here...maybe a little Bobby flay mixed in
Food shows have had a tangible, net-positive effect on the quality of life of myself, my family, and my friends. Unfortunately, I now make amazing Focaccia breadsticks that gets requested at every pot luck.
Me too- my TV is off or on Hulu or Amazon or Netflix or some sports or food channel
My fire stick keeps throwing up transition stuff with pictures of the orange. It doesn’t help with my attempts to find peace.
Now you’re just a food pervert
Radicalized by the Food Network
The 24/7 news detox has been kind of healing for real
Same.
Yes. It was rough but I had to for my sanity.
I watch a lot of food network also..love the holiday shows..
I can't even look at my news feed any more because everyone seems to be normalizing trump and I just can't take it.
Home improvement shows
News? I remember that. Didn't help much. I'll check again one day, but, you know, later.
Same
Yes! We liberals are gaining weight!
Me too with some ID channel thrown in
I haven't watched any TV, unless a snippet of the Dallas game counts when I waited to be seated at a restaurant.
Same but CSI, M*A*S*H, Love Boat, and weather channels.
I learned so much from the Food Network in my early 20's.
I was always watching news and listening to political podcasts, now IF I turn on tv, it’s Hallmark Christmas movies🎄
I find avoiding the news is better for me personally right now .
I haven’t even done that.
I have been out of country since right before election it’s been easy to avoid news! Soon to be home, I’m planning on HGTV, food network, binge watching Netflix. I refuse to let that man take any more of my serenity and peace unless absolutely necessary!!
Me home improvement shows
Hallmark Christmas shenanigans over here, but a new Murder in a Small Town and High Potential is waiting for me.
Same! Up to season 7 of the holiday baking show lol. Oh and ID discovery, cause options are good 😂
I got soooo into food network during the dark ages I even started a baking side business. I’m gonna own a bakery by 2028 at this rate
I’m back to HGTV full-time.
I've watched a lot of crazy bad Lifetime movies this past week.
Holiday movies are already fire on Netflix!
I've watched a few. The Lindsey Lohan 'Falling For Christmas' was decent.
There is a flow of Lacey Chabert movies for the taking!!!
Hahahaha. I watched Haul Out the Holly 1 & 2 Friday night. She's the Queen of Christmas movies.
I had no idea, and I’m new fan girl!
She's great. I love her holiday movies. They're easy to watch because they all end happy. I see you're geographically local. I'm next to the Guitar Hotel. Got keep us blue dots together because Ron will be even more emboldened.
I’m now in the PNW, mom and pops are still in the swamps of Desantis land. I check on them periodically but I’m in a very red part of the upper left.
Same, except disney+ for mainly cheesy sitcom like series and a series called Reboot
That's exactly what I've been doing. I walked into an office that had political news on and I could instantly feel my heart rate increasing.
I've cut myself off too, for now. Paying attention did nothing for me or the country since I don't live in a swing state.
Same and Nat Geo. Love watching Holiday Baking Champions. The bakers are incredible.
It was difficult for me to give up TV news, but I’m used to it now and much happier.
Kinda amazing what watch brainless entertainment does for stress managerment. I'm watching a lot of SportsCenter again.
Me too, it was great.
Similar thoughts: put on cooking or travel tv, hug my dog, talk to a cat or fox in my neighbourhood... Dipping myself back into the horror again... as it's unavoidable... but repeat step 1 to ground myself again. ✌️
Yes......I just can't watch it now. 🙁
Me, too. Also, Nova has a great series for their 50th season. Worth watching if you like space/solar system stuff.
Watching Hallmark Christmas movies lol. So far so good!
PBS for days...📺
SAME. (Except also TLC)
Me too. I’ve been recommending it.😜
I’ve started watching the Christmas Cookie Challenge in the mornings instead of the news like I usually do. It is quite refreshing. Plus cookies.
Hmm, that’s definitely something to consider!
Yeah, I think I’ll devote tomorrow to food shows.
I started enjoying the Weather Channel
I've been watching the Outer Banks on Netflix. Teens on a treasure hunt, plus family drama and history. Very great dramedy. 10/10 so glad I'm not stressing myself too much.
That show is oddly addictive. I'm behind a season currently.
I just started, and am now on season two. So... yes. Addictive is accurate.
Yes, holiday baking! And romantic comedies. Anything light to lift the spirits
Bob Ross channel.
Same. Haven't watched anything since the election. Even "Last Week Tonight" was to much right now.
I've been watching Hallmark Channel all night...well okay I'm sleeping and it's on but still, I've never slept better! All these fun and sweet Christmas movies on constantly!
i feel ya...
Same, but I can’t watch The Pioneer Woman - feels too maga.
I’ve watched Night Court, Sanford and Son, Bones, FN, etc. anything is better than watching a bunch of overpaid jerks sane washing madman.
Bargain Block got me thru election night!
For me it's been anime, YouTube videos about restoring sailboats, and 60-year-old Perry Mason reruns...
Dang. How did I forget about Food Network? Thank you!
It is amazing how much I have gotten done since I started practicing news avoidance.
I’ve discovered all kinds of things this last week
I am watching stupid movies...mostly about princes from countries that don't exist who come to the US and fall in love...
Omg me too! Literally Frasier and Food Network! I am really enjoying Novembermas 😃🎄
I'm catching up on "The Great British Baking Show" and it's.... 😍
Lots of Hallmark in our household these days
Never heard it described that way but you’re not wrong
Good for you. Making choices to feel better is 100% okay.
All seasons of walking dead since Nov 6th. Only thing keeping me sane 😁
It’s Supernatural on Netflix for me
Same. Feels like I'm detoxing 😅
Really alarming to discover how absolutely useless my addiction to being fully informed was.
That’s exactly how I feel, perfect way of putting it.
💯
Yes, this is it!
Me as well, food, building, remodeling, animal life, ect
I was listening to three political podcasts a day, but I've gone podcast-cold-turkey the past week. Mostly as (to quote William Gibson) my brain has felt as if it's "the color of television, tuned to a dead channel."
Me too! And Hallmark.🤣
I did that yesterday! It was great!
