Honestly, this might be the first episode of Strange New Worlds that I would unreservedly consider Bad

I think I agree, I was entertained throughout most of it! Despite Anson Mount's Vulcan. But at the same time, it was almost repellently bad whenever you stopped to think about it (or whenever Patton Oswalt was onscreen) and I suspect it's going to be on a lot of "worst episode" lists going forward
I enjoyed Oswalt and Romijn, even though their subplot threw me out of "suspension of disbelief" and into "amused at a meta level." Agreed about whatever Mount was doing— and about what happens as soon as you think about any of it for a second. Even the best bit in the moment, La'an, is terrible!
Honestly the bit inside La'an's katra (or whatever) was what pushed it over the edge for me from "this isn't working" to "this is actively terrible" despite the intriguing winks at hypothetical Romulan origins
