And stop subsidizing the red states.
And stop subsidizing the red states.
There are good people everywhere, literally. Millions of people in every red state who don't want this and didn't vote for it. Sometimes more Dem voters in a red state than a blue one.
I’m a red state liberal and I absolutely hate this mentality. It’s a big reason why winnable red state races get completely ignored by National Dems.
Do you have any better ideas, any of you!?!? If this is the way to stop Fascism then we must do it. The Democrats in red states, in fact everyone, will benefit if fascism is defeated. Except for the billionaires, they will be angry.
Blue staters could instead build solidarity and recognize that red state dems can win races if they have national support. Look at Laura Kelly: only Andy Beshear is a more popular red state Dem gov. She turned the state around after Brownback, but there’s 0 attention from National Dem leadership
Red states stay red because blue states - and this the majority of Dem leadership and fundraisers - completely write them off. There’s no major GOTV campaigns here even though a good candidate + very high turnout can make a lot of states competitive. Instead you’d rather punish us?
Like it sucks that my community and neighbors largely vote Trump but if a tornado wiped out my house and Democrats withheld FEMA funds I don’t think I would be very enthusiastic to continue to support a party that lumps their own voters in with the red hats.
Observation from Canada: Considering what's been going on with FEMA, it's really rather odd that somehow you've chosen to talk about FEMA funding being withheld, as some unacceptably blame-worthy, future possibility, that the Dems would be responsible for.
I think this is a response to the person saying "blue states should stop subsiding red states"
The problem is that there aren't actually "red states" and "blue states". They're all purple states (that include a lot of people who are fed up with how right-leaning and anti-working class BOTH parties have become). We need to be able to form coalitions across state lines.
Fascism in Italy started in this way. Get prepared for civic resistance.
Do you seriously think people advocating this stuff don’t know that? The only existing power structure that can challenge the feds is the states, and states run by Democrats (“blue states”) are the only ones with a chance of doing so. This is about using what power is available.
Tbc every state could create dual power. There's just a higher chance of being tortured or killed in the red states. But that chance exists almost as likely in blue states. In both states the chances are low, but it's enough to scare people.
But because the govs bar is in hell, the masses no longer agree with them, as much as they believe in human decency.
I’m talking about power recognized by the current system and potentially backed by organized force. The only entities with the popular legitimacy, money, and power to counter the feds without years of grassroots organizing are the states. And the red states aren’t going to do it.
If time weren’t a factor, sure, building dual power would be an option. And I think people should be doing that too. But the longer you let fascism fester, the lower the chance of recovery. Triage.
I think people should be doing both and investing in whatever they have the most spirit in!
Working in the system will placate parts of the system enough to relieve pressure for the resistance outside of the system. Outside of the system is how you both increase the chance for people to recover, but also replace the 100 year reign of neoliberal fascism.
I agree that both are important.
For sure. It’s just that the original context of my comment was very different than the direction this has gone.
If you have actions you think will accomplish more, feel free to present them. Otherwise, don’t get in the way of people advocating for actually resisting this asshole. I don’t love the Dems either, but if they’re going to do something useful, I’m not going to complain.
