I like the shakes. Not going to lie.
The Frisco melt is a core memory for me. Also it was our high school late night hangout
You are not alone
OTOH it rocks that Cracker Barrel is vegan now
I haven’t been in years, but they were a favorite post-clubbing spot in my college years. Their cheese fries were 🔥
I’ve been making burgers and fries at home. I’ll never buy steak and shake or McDonald’s again.
Try Freddy’s . Best fries ever
I'll (t)allow it.
I stopped going when they did their own Cracker Barrel-style "modernization" 10-15 years ago. Not because of change in logo or decor, but because the menu got both worse and more expensive. They dropped the pork tenderloin sandwich; it was the only place outside the Midwest where you could get one!
I am also so sad
I’m with you so hard
I loved going there in college and would still occasionally drive out of my way for their frisco patty melt but never again.
Im here with you josie
No! I grew up going there as a special treat with my now-deceased dad :(
genuine question -- what's happening to steak n shake?
They've embraced the coded Nazi iconography and are currently advertising with RFK Jr.'s wackadóo heath theories about how seed oils are bad for you so beef tallow should be the only way to fry your potatoes.
... y'know, just once. i would really appreciate brands not willingly enabling fascists
I don't even have any issues with beef tallow fries, they're tasty. They're just not healthier for you than seed oil no matter what that roadkill eating Kennedy reject thinks. But even outside of kissing that ghoul's ass, Steak and Shake is using a font and logo suspiciously familiar.
I agree but I don't recognize the font or logo
It's not the Fraktur font but it's very very close. *the* German font, on the cover of Mein Kampf and Nazi stationary until they got sick of it and banned it but Neo Nazis still have a boner for it.
Never mind, a friend saw this and dm'd me with example comparisons. GENUINELY ghoulish
You are assuredly not.
I will always miss their cheesy fries.
I frequented the one in Indy every time I traveled there, but it was kind of a mess with no functioning soda machines the last couple of times I went. So, far less sad than I would have been a couple of years ago.
The one I went to in college had atrocious service. There were always multiple tables that hadn’t been cleared, & we regularly got our own refills or grabbed our food from the window since the servers were MIA. We were still there every weekend after the bars tho…
Hey Josie was there some new, bad news I missed about this? Steak n Shake was where my late parents met on their early dates, so, yeah, have loved them since birth.
Grew up in a small Midwestern town and ate there so often with my grandparents.
when I was in high school, my friend worked there, and he showed me that the milkshakes weren't ice cream, they were just pouches of flavored corn syrup that they'd freeze and then blend with water. Idk if they switched over to real food since then, but I'm fine with not finding out
I loved their chocolate milkshakes, definitely waited in way too long drive-through lines for them.
Their garlic butter burger was the single greatest, most disgusting thing I have ever eaten in my life
It's fucking delicious and I almost immediately had to give myself CPR
and the last time you compromised your cardiac health there was when…?
I never ate at one to begin with. I’m not even sure where the nearest one is to me.
I didn’t really want to before, but yes, knowing I won’t again feels so final
No, you are not. I also hate knowing I was possibly buying (normal) fries from secret nazis for years.
