She put out Hound Dog before Elvis. He culturally appropriated everything.

That was Big Mama Thornton. But you are right about Elvis.
🙄 Fact check: Elvis didn't steal Hound Dog. Or any other song. 🙄 www.independent.co.uk/arts-enterta...
🙄 Fact check: they said Thornton put out her version first. Your post says the same thing. 🙄 No one in this thread said steal. But way to be super weirdly defensive about Elvis. And yea, anyone who listens would hear it’s a different version, although with very similar choruses.
There’s a great episode of Switched On Pop that details this and many versions of the song.
In their eyes, cultural appropriation (not a thing) means stealing.
Don’t pretend to know what the world looks like through anyone’s eyes but your own. And no straw man arguments either.
No straw man. You said the previous commenter was right about Elvis, ie cultural appropriation. Nope!
I can tell you why people are weirdly defensive of Elvis. Because he was one of the few stars at the time who fought against racist BS. He always spoke of his Black influences and refused to let racists dictate who could be his backup singers who were Black women. I don’t even like his music much.
It's because everyone has a little Elvis in them. youtu.be/5DcTY9i-fx8?...
Er, it was Mama Thornton who put out Hound Dog, not Rosetta Tharpe. 🙄 And covering songs isn't cultural appropriation. He ALWAYS gave credit where the music came from. Fact check: Elvis didn't steal Hound Dog. Or any other song. 🙄 www.independent.co.uk/arts-enterta...
