I remember being in Florida for a signing once and had some kids telling me how “dark” Atlanta was and I was so goddam confused what their issue was with the electricity until I figured out they were racist shits.

I started relying on comments like that with some reference to Jim Crow. When a past CEO remarked that his employees seemed "a bit too pale," he then excitedly talked about plants in the South being more diverse. Long, silent stare at me. "Damn it. It's because of slavery, isn't it?"
