Net Zero is unobtainable at this point. That why it's stressed now. Hopefully, Net Zero will directly become Net Negative. As you said, the thawing permafrost will become more significant than our fossil fuel consumption since it's already in a feedback loop w warming Arctic summers.

“Unobtainable” just means you’re giving up. Either it’s obtainable or the species goes extinct. Maybe we should be trying to stop it idk. Setting bogus “not enough” targets hasn’t worked in 40 years. Why keep trying the same failed tactic? It’s the species. Actual war would be justified.

'Unobtainable' means I'm a realist. Our entire civilization revolves around fossil fuels. Going for Net Zero instantly would be catastrophic. No matter what we do now we're headed for an extinction level event. It's already too late to stop what will happen in the near future.
