It was big news to those paying attention at the time. I was 17, the daughter of a free-thinking mother who showed me the article in the Waikato Times. It struck such a chord that I've remembered it all these years. Never for a second I'd have to suggest it here in New Zealand decades later.

If mum hadn't shown me, it would've bypassed me completely. I was heavily into saving the whales and chaining myself to the Japanese Embassy gates in protest at the time. 😉😎
