He would be ordering strikes on drug cartels, whom most Americans view as bad, and not civilian population centers. With high tech weapons, collateral damage is avoided. Once again, Trump probably sees upsides and no downsides. He is the 'law and order president' fighting crime, protecting America.
How do you strike a drug cartel? And where are they? Colombia and Mexico would be top of the list in South America, I think. If he goes for Venezuela, its not about drugs, just vindictiveness and bullying somewhere that can't fight back.
These days our strike weapons have more than just GPS. They have internal guidance systems, they can follow terrain mapping, and some even have video analysis software able to pick out the target itself when it appears. NSA and CIA would provide coordinates of sites to military planners.
Venezuela's allies are Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, and Turkey. So not really friendly with U.S. While Colombia is actually a bit of an ally with U.S. Easier to strike Venezuela than Colombia.
Hitting a transit point will not stop the drugs trade. It might raise prices a little for a while but thats all.
I don't think that any of this, if it happens, is about stopping the drug trade. It's politics and theatrics and intimidation. Trump would be portrayed as a strong law and order leader and as a 'war hero'. Trump would be intimidating Mexico, which he likes to do. Also divert attention from Epstein.
And maybe Trump's twisted mind has become addicted to ordering air strikes. He got a taste of it in striking Iran. And he apparently liked what he saw. It's difficult to gauge the mind of someone as twisted as Trump.
And if Trump is Hitler 2.0, then he will also overreach, just like Hitler 1.0 did.
