Had a guy come to give an estimate for concrete work. He apologized for what it would cost but his suppliers already increased prices factoring in tariffs, whether they happen or not.
This is us. We had plans drawn up and we had a builder ready to go. My husband works for the federal government and we are waiting for his time to come. Between that and cost of materials, we had to pull out of the project.

I went to the ER w/ my partner & the nurse was saying how her VERY flexible daycare provider may be affected. The in-home daycare provider’s husband works for FBI and investigated 1/6. If he loses his job they may have to leave the area. If that happens, then all 10 families will have no childcare!

I run a small business in the DMV. I'm already seeing lower revenue YoY. We're getting very few new leads and we've had an inordinate number of cancellations, mostly due to actual or anticipated job loss by federal employees and contractors.
Same thing happened in 2008-2009 child care centers were almost empty leading to layoffs of staff already trying to survive on poverty wages. Roads were empty of landscapers and construction trucks that were usually first traffic in the morning, followed by daycare workers.
It's gonna take a lot bigger pain & suffering by the solid middle class for white Christian Americans to wake up...a giant catastrophic financial collapse. It's coming.

Here in Maine, it's about $700-900 a month. It varies based on the area, but that's probably a decent estimate. If you are in a single earner family and your earner is being paid $20 an hour, it's more than 25% of your family income.

Why people didn’t immediately start writing about this & preparing those who didn’t (& still don’t) see the dominoes falling is beyond me. We feds lose our jobs or fear losing our jobs spend less. That means businesses cut back hours/wages/staff or even close. This isn’t difficult to understand.
And it isn’t just feds. This affects contractors, who are also starting to get laid off as their projects dry up. People who think this is only a DC issue are going to have a rude awakening.
There are military bases everywhere & Fed workers are at all those bases.
An annual health & recreation fair held by the Military & Family Readiness Center at our local AFB was just cancelled. This base contributes $3 mil into the local economy. It has about 5000 civilian workers and about 8000 that are military or reserve. Any cuts will affect everyone in the base area.

I am an assistant director at a preschool that is directly supported by Fed employee families. We are unable to fill our rosters.
And its EVERYTHING. Fast foid Resteraunts serving lunch to workers. Finer dining not having people chois going out over 12 dollar eggs. Movies, theatre, concerts not gone to cause the car repair is 25% more.
It is gonna be a horrific true “trickle down” effect , affecting ALL parts of life & EVERY American plus other countries as it spreads outward. Can’t believe millions were so stupid and unaware and voted for all this.

With the rise in interest rates, there’s probably a lot of assets on bank balance sheets that haven’t been marked down to what they are actually worth now. Potentially commercial RE holding too.

You must not live in a daycare desert. Every daycare within 90 miles of me has a 5-year waiting list. That’s not an exaggeration.
My state has enough daycare spots for 80% of children needing care.
They won't be able to find qualified staff later either. There is a nationwide early care and education workforce crisis and NO ONE talks about it. Actually, it's the entire care economy.
I work in the field. The workforce crisis is an unbelievable struggle with no end in sight. Republicans want an end to child care and elder care forcing a return to women in the home.
Same. We can't fill positions w full benefits and retirement.
It's beyond frustrating that they continue to get away with talking about all the money that they're "saving" but no-one has been pushing them to be transparent in any way about what the costs of all those "savings" are going to be. Of course they probably have no idea of what that is at all.
