I went to the ER w/ my partner & the nurse was saying how her VERY flexible daycare provider may be affected. The in-home daycare provider’s husband works for FBI and investigated 1/6. If he loses his job they may have to leave the area. If that happens, then all 10 families will have no childcare!

Same thing happened in 2008-2009 child care centers were almost empty leading to layoffs of staff already trying to survive on poverty wages. Roads were empty of landscapers and construction trucks that were usually first traffic in the morning, followed by daycare workers.

I experienced this same issue during the Great Recession of 2007-2009. I was lucky to find a new job but the daycare closed and we had to arrange care for after school. I guess it is going to happen again.

Here in Maine, it's about $700-900 a month. It varies based on the area, but that's probably a decent estimate. If you are in a single earner family and your earner is being paid $20 an hour, it's more than 25% of your family income.

An annual health & recreation fair held by the Military & Family Readiness Center at our local AFB was just cancelled. This base contributes $3 mil into the local economy. It has about 5000 civilian workers and about 8000 that are military or reserve. Any cuts will affect everyone in the base area.

2/2 and means several useful govt services have also been cut, from helpful farm information, to home gardeners, to prenatal care and to clean sewer/water services, etc. that really doesnt work out to a net savings, especially when you factor in lost fed/state/local taxes, you have a real net loss.

for every million dollar in 'savings' from job cuts, thats 25-30 decent jobs taken out of a organization, and each dollar in payroll effects the economy at 2-5 times the actual payroll, so a miilion dolllars equals over 100 total job losses 1/2

@kwcollins.bsky.social by 2008 my mother owned 2 daycares that were at capacity. By the end of that year when the recession hit, the first thing parents did when they lost their jobs was pull their kids from the daycare. Within a year, she lost both daycares. Ended up working at McDonald’s. Horrible
