I get the appeal of Gavin Newsom. I think a lot of centrist dem types actually like and want fascism, but they don't like the aesthetics of how Trump is delivering it. Like they ordered the fascism from wish and it looks ugly, brutish, and cheap. It's gauche.
People have made comments how Trump is laying the groundwork for a more competent fascist in the future. I definitely worry that could come more from the center than even further right. (This is not a suggestion to vote even more right or something, just that a centrist dem won’t be our savior.)

Clearing homeless camps isn't addressing homelessness, it's just further traumatizing already traumatized people by destroying what little they have left, it won't solve any issues, but it's a show of force. That's fascism right there, the state won't help, only punish. But doesn't he look COOL!?

You can't effectively address homelessness until you consciously decide that unproductive people are not inherently worthless. Our society values people by their net worth, and conflates it with merit. People first have to accept that homeless people don't DESERVE to be homeless.

Blue MAGA is 100% a thing, I'm not sure to what degree, vocal minority or whatever, but I wasn't quite aware of how prevalent it was until it started posturing in response to MAGA. While I expect it doesn't cover most, it makes more sense why 1/3 of the US doesn't vote
My concern is that it works and people fall for it. I keep thinking about this video Jay Smooth made after Eric Adams was indicted. It's mostly about the indictment, but he also talks about why people are drawn to showboaty candidates like Cuomo, and a lot of his critiques of Cuomo apply to Newsom.
People get enamored with the character they see on television, all the big public spectacles and viral events, and they don't really very close attention to the actual person he is off-camera.
