One thing I believe in my bones about 2016 and 2024: Donald Trump didn’t win the election—the Democrats lost it. There’s a difference. We made a lot of mistakes in both elections that got us here, and Democrats have to own up to that and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

To me it seems that the only mistake that the Democrats made or put another way the biggest most consequential mistake the Democrats made was not cheating

💯. They underestimated the critical issues at hand and responded with kids gloves. The hollow rhetoric and wringing of hands is passé and ineffective. Throw in old school thinking and this disaster was inevitable.

Here's how it works... Dems lose when people refuse to vote for them. And that happens when people CHOOSE to surrender our rights & economic futures to a fascist authoritarian bc they really think HE was a better choice than Hillary & Kamala. There is NO Dem message to fix that level of ignorance.

If we're going to blame the elections on one thing, I think the right wing media environment won them, personally

Especially when the GOP is giving them all the ammunition they need to succeed.

We have a male ego problem in America that has a huge issue with a woman being president. To add to those numbers, many women are fast to knock down other women. Outdated, sexist views persist in all parties. Shocked by the crap I heard from people I knew as “kind” and “decent”. Masks came off.

I feel like the dems really thought that trump would beat himself in 2024 -- be so asinine on stages, so overtly racist, lie about everything so much that people would not vote for him. in fact I think that the above made people back trump more fervently. the dems strategy of "lie back and wait" ...

... clearly needs a rethink. the dems strategy of "you go low, we go high" needs a rethink. new strategy: hit hard, hit first when you can, mobilize both joy & anger. show real stories of real people. *the message *is* the people right now.* anyone who doesn't see that deserves to lose elections.

Luckily the exact same people who lost so badly both times will still be in charge in the next election. Axelrod and Carville will have candidates campaigning with Liz Cheney and this time it will work. We really will get those (mythical) center-right voters.

We just need to silence these pesky young people with all of their enthusiasm and sincerely held beliefs about justice. There’s absolutely no room for that in the Democratic Party.

Please consider that the loudest voices don't always represent the majority. The circular firing squad of single- issue shooters are killing solid, qualified Dems.

Agree! If their pick loses in the primary, they opt out of voting during the general election or vote the other party candidate to prove a point. Many disgruntled voters voted for the 🤡 to prove a point. One being mommy issues-they refused to back a woman president.

I think it was pure misogyny. It's not just a republican problem; it exists among registered democrats and independents too.

I believe in my bones that Putin stole it. When his methods weren't enough to steal 2020, he brought in Elon Musk to make sure they "won" 2024. They'll "win" 2026 and every election going forward if they aren't stopped.

I know most Dem leadership are too scared to raise this, but I think we might have lost it because Harris and everyone else refused to demand any audits related to peculiarities in the results. This should have happened at minimum in PA. But everyone was too afraid to be seen as “like Trump” -

Demanding an audit did not mean anyone had to spend the next year holding rallies and complaining like a whiney child. The possibility of requesting audits calmly and reasonably existed. What if Harris did not actually lose? How would that change strategy talk about Dem ‘failures’?
