Decided to check out Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Ep 1 the main stars receive an injection that genetically alters them so they can sneak onto an alien planet and blend in, just a normal thing. 2 eps later the entire plot is "genetic modification is the most evil and banned thing in the Federation"
