Goddammit/Yay. The job I desperately don't want just offered me. Now what?
Take it.
I'm probably going to, but it's definitely not as much money as the first HR person suggested it would be, which dramatically reduces the already limited appeal.
Ask for enough money for you to want it.
I'm currently making $0, so "enough" is a difficult number to pin down.
take the damn job. then keep looking.
Gonna talk to the boss tonight, but I think that's the only real option. My only qualm is that I do have some other irons in the fire, and I'm worried about burning bridges if I bail after a few months.
job loyalty hasn't been a thing for a long time and if someone faults you for taking a better offer in this economy then that's not a very reliable bridge.
Is it something you can use to find a better role somewhere else?
There's some possibility of upward movement within the org, but it's all retail driven, and that's what I really want out of. It doesn't build relevant skills for getting out of the retail space, either.
Ah, yeah. I get that. It’s money though, right?
Of which I do not have very much, at the moment. Yes.
A devil’s bargain then. (If you’re ever looking to pad the resume let me know. I’ve got my own “consulting” company & we’re always “hiring”. I’m always willing to create new roles out of whole cloth for friends who need a boost. ) We do it all. You name the sector, we’re involved in it.
Um…hi
You’re hired! What do you want your title to be? (I’m serious too. I’m always willing and able to give people a fantastic reference / employment review)
Hah! I'm good for now, but I'll let you know. Exotic Animal Acquisition Project Manager could be a fun one.
That’s “Senior” Exotic Animal Acquisition Project Manager. I give glowing references.
If you need more inflation, "Executive Director of Exotic Animal Business Development."
Bingo! Never sell yourself short.
Fitz has entered the chat...
He *is* exotic
Take it and keep applying to other positions. The job market sucks right now, and a paycheck is still a paycheck. Hopefully, you can get a job at a more desirable position soon, and the bad job will just be an ignorable blip on your resume.
Embrace the suck and find something better.

I do. I'm going to say yes. My god is it going to suck, though.
Take it and keep looking. But I understand the suck; been there, done that, got the scars.
Agree and same here.
