A Belfast family paid Aviva £60 a month since 2007 for critical illness cover, but when their 16 year old son with an incurable degenerative disease needed round-the-clock care, Aviva refused to pay out on a technicality.

This is what happens when care is left to profit-driven insurers. Families are left fighting terms and conditions instead of getting the support they desperately need. This is why we need our NHS. Free, fair, and there when people need it most 💙

It's gambling, basically. Insurance companies take all comers in a flash, then if a claim is made they put a lot of resources towards finding a loophole which will enable them to not pay out, and I've experienced this myself.
